I know its been said before but it really does suck when you purchase a tour only to find out that a tour 2 will be coming shortly. I purchased mine late Nov. so theres no chance I can sneak in before 30 days to get a Tour 2. :/

Lol...I feel your pain. Yet, I'll probably end up getting it lol :/
we been talking about Tour 2 for many months already. If you were any part of this forum you would have looked around and saw Tour 2 was coming before you ended up buying Tour 1. It all comes down to making sure you do your homework before you buy.
What's this about sneaking in the Tour 2 before the 30 days? I just got mine on the 12th
you have 30 days after you buy a phone to try it out, if you dont like the phone you can exchange the phone in for another one. He was hoping the Tour 2 would be out within 30 days so he could just trade his phone in for Tour 2, but Tour 2 wont be out in 30 days so hes out of luck.
There isn't that much of a difference between Tour 1 and Tour 2. Trackball issues are a thing of the past for most of us (hence, the trackpad isn't much of an upgrade) and wifi, while nice to have, is a necessity for select few. Everything else stays pretty much the same: form factor, processor speed, etc. OS 5 for Tour 2 _should_ be ready at about the same time. Now, if BB came out with a touchscreen candybar BB (which is also rumored to be in the works) that would be a big change.
how about sim capabilities for overseas?
I don't see the Tour 2 as that much different. In this particular case, it doesn't bother me a bit.
I just hope RIM launches something significant in 2010 to get me excited; VASTLY improved browser or camera would do it.
Other than that; 8900, Tour, Tour 2, 9700... It's like different flavors of Koolaid. All good. All sweet. All pretty much the same with slightly different flavor.
I also have to agree, I personally like the trackball over the trackpad. I had wifi on my last 3 phones, and never used it.
I have excellent 3G coverage nearly all the time, so I have no reason for wifi. To be real honest, wifi pretty much killed my meager to begin with battery life on every smartphone I have owned.
So for me, I will be waiting for something more new and exciting than the Tour 2.
I think people are getting too worked up about this second version. The Tour itself is a great phone; the Tour 2 just has some additional things. Not enough to warrant me spending the hundreds of dollars on eBay to get it, though.
- Wifi has never been a concern for me
- I like a trackball over a trackpad
The only real exciting thing, for me, at least, regarding the Tour 2, will be the release of the OFFICIAL 5.0 OS (and undoubtedly, the Tour's 5.0 release, too).
Ok, don't kill me on this if I'm wrong, but someone had their hands on the tour 2 on some blog, maybe it was here, I can't remember. Anyway, from what they said, the tour 2 will have the same processor as the storm 2 (which makes me assume the current tour doesn't?), as well as more application memory (512 I believe).
Again, I'm bringing this off memory from a few days ago, but I believe there are more differences than just the trackpad and wifi.
Ya the Tour2 may(?) be a little better.. but I say you have one of the best phones on the market right now.. so don't get all worked up because Rim wanted to improve something that is already great. Sure it is nice to have the latest and greatest, but like the saying goes " all good things come to those who wait"...lol. Sure I might upgrade to the Tour2 next OCT. when my year is up, but I'm more than proud to have this model Tour!!
My 30 day trial is about to end by Friday, I am still debating whether I should get the Tour. The biggest thing holding me back is the trackball issues but they seemed resolved for the later build, and personally I like the trackball better than the track pad. Wi-Fi is not a important to me, cause I always have my computer around.
I think my biggest pet peeve is what's going to happen to the pricing for the Tour when the Tour2 comes out, will Sprint/Verizon have a BOGO sale? Cause I am sure all of you who bought the Tour in November and December spent $149.99, and probably a month to a month and a half from now we will probably have the Tour2 at $149.99... Which makes me wonder how much the price of the Tour will drop?
BGR did a hands on earlier this week and reported that they said the Tour 2 felt "snappier" and that they suspected that it may have a better processor than the Tour 1. I personally am guessing that this is just the OS difference and not a hardware issue.
