Is the new 5.0 os going to change the view of the sms? The new curve I looked at, at verizon, had the texts all arranged almost like bb messenger, or like the iphone. It's the one thing that I don't love about my tour...

Only RIM knows that answer. Threaded SMS is now standard on OS 5.0. It's a deal breaker for many like myself. I wouldn't have gotten a 9700 if there was no threaded SMS, as good as the rest of the phone is.
all 5.0 OS's on Blackberrys have threaded SMS.. if you want threaded SMS right now, just download the 5.0 for the Tour although its leaked, but 5.0.230 for the Tour is pretty stable
Am I missing something with this threaded sms on the 5.0.230? I downgraded back to 4.7 because of it. Did I miss an option that makes the threaded sms easier to read? I like the "idea" of threaded but in actual use, it just jumbled way too many texts together with no division between them. Made reading the latest text a real pain in the ***.
Anyone? I'd love to go back up to 5.0 but honestly, it ruined the SMS for me.
