For my contacts whom I have assigned a ringtone id, when they send me a text message, I am not alerted while my phone is in the holster. However, it will alert me while outside of the holster. I have already returned my first phone and this is my second one with the same issue. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution?

Make a custom ringtone profile and make it so it alerts you while it's in and out of the hoslter.
