So a friend is ditching his Tour for the Pre. He's selling the Tour to me and in buying it for my wife who's locked into a Verizon contract. I know Sprint will unlock the Tour for free and I know the Tour will work on Big Red's network. My question is once the phone is in my possesion and unlocked what steps do I follow after that? My thinking is I take it in to Verizon, tell them I want this phone used for my wife's line, add the data plan, and skip merrily out of the store while being mauled with love from m'lady. I just want to make sure I'm on the right track here and that I don't miss any steps.
    Thank you.

P.S. I did a quick mobile search and didn't find anything. If there is a thread like this a link would be great.

Thanks for your help. As I said I am on my phone now and the search function doesn't work wonders. Do you have a link to a thread about this?

Last time I checked I don't think you can bring over a Blackberry unit from Sprint to Verizon due to branding policies, but I mite be wrong things change. But if you can I'd recommend not bringing it into a store as they might give you a hard time considering it will be Sprint branded, the best thing to do I think would be to call Verizon and just say you got a new phone and want to register it on your account and give them the serial # but make sure your friend releases the serial # and PIN from his account at Sprint. Good Luck

First I apologize for my wording above. What I meant was being on the wap forums it is a little more difficult to search. I'll be more careful next time. Second the links you provided do not answer the question. If you look at my first post I clearly ask what happens after it's unlocked, i.e. unlocked phone in hand want to activate on VZW now what.

And to gill, won't the serial show that it is a Sprint Tour? So they'll know anyway whether I go in store or not. I would much rather go in store. I like dealing with people face to face and our local store has pretty competent reps.

well...sprint will unlock the GSM portion of the phone to use with other GSM carriers..so you would have no problem using it on AT&T and tmobile.
i'm not sure how it will work to use it on verizon. that will be a lot more tricky and i'm sure someone else can chime in on this one..

    but ya..good luck!

I second this. Verizon will absolutely not activate a Sprint branded phone and vice versa; unless you know someone pretty high up in the company. And even then, no guarantees. Best bet is to buy a Verizon branded Tour.

Thank you all for your help guys. Unfortunately I cannot afford $400 for a new BlackBerry. I was trying to get my wife a BlackBerry as a nice just because present and was hoping this would work. Anyone want to trade a VZW Tour for my Sprint one with an Otterbox case and holster? All in perfect condition.

http://forums.crackberry.com/f71/spr...erizon-291496/ This is the other thread on this topic that sparked my interest in this. This has been the only one where someone confidently posted that this would be possible. Hopefully the poster returns with more information on how this is done. Best of luck to you with the phone situation.

If your friend is willing to give you a good price on the Sprint unit, scoop it up. Then sell it on eBay or something of the sort. You should get a good amt for it since is still a highly sought after device. After that you can buy a Verizon phone. Just an idea.
