OK, like most people I've had the trackball issue ever since I got my phone. This week I had enough and took it to Sprint to get a replacement phone. I was a little hesitant since I knew they'd most likely send me a Refurbished phone. To my surprise when I go to the about screen and see that next to Refurbished it has a N. I'm assuming this mean that the phone is not a refurbished phone?

Meanwhile on the packaging slip the item description is as follows,

REC RIM BLACKBERRY 9630 HANDSET SINGLE

    PART NUMBER: REC9630RI1
Does REC stand for Recertified? If so whats the difference from this and refurbished. Thanks.

Recertified and refurbished are basically the same thing. See this website for more. Savvy Shopper: Difference Between Recertified and Refurbished | BlogHer

The real question is, does this Tour work for you now?

Yes. I asked the question though because I'm the type of person that likes to keep his phone in immaculate condition so that when I go to sell it I get top dollar for it. People tend to look down upon refurbished products when it comes to value.

As far as reselling the phone, I think that most people don't care if it's refurbished or not as long as the phone is in good condition and works properly. I've sold numerous phones and never had anyone ask me if it was a refurb unit or not. If your phone has an N next to Refurbished, then it means NO. I'm not sure what the REC stands for on your packaging slip.

Thanks for the help. I did have a problem in the past when I sold a Mogul which I had received from Sprint as a replacement. The person was a little agitated that I didn't mention it was a refurbished unit which at the time I wasn't aware of.

lol this thread is kind of funny. We can all relate to wanting the newest, unadulterated devices we possibly can.

If you resell on this site, which is a great place to do it, just list that information.

Agreed, list the information upfront that it was a replacement and people will be good with it. I have had my Tour replaced (trackball issues) and not a single complaint about this Certified Like New Device for me!
