This might be a stupid question, but I've done some searching and I can't find the answer.

I have the Tour 9630, and if I choose to do the OTA update, will it wipe my device? Do I need to backup my e-mail's, contact's, ect?

    Thanks.

    1. Yes. It will wipe your device.

1a. It should/might restore your data.
1b. It might not completely restore your data.

    2. You should ALWAYS do a manual backup of your device data AND of your third party applications BEFORE doing ANY kind of loading of the device software. Why take chances?

You can take the steps to backup and restore NOW or see how easy it would have been to do them as you're reloading your wiped out device.

It's better to be safe than sorry:

Always back up your device any time anything changes, even if it's just getting that new important contact you don't have written down anywhere.

Always back up your device before changing OS, whether computer based installation or OTA installation.
