Because having both options was redundant. Standby locks the keyboard and saves power by keeping the screen off...

i think this topic was discovered originally in either the Sprint .484 build or the one right after that. Its not a flaw of the OS just a change that RIM made and some people don't like it. I don't experience it because i am sticking with .419

You can also hold the "A" button to lock the phone. Unlocking though must be done at the top left shoulder button. It works well for me - my standby button was getting worn out anyway!

The "Mute" key used to put the phone in standby. Now it just mutes the phone, shocker? Lock key now truly LOCKS the device. Why are people complaining? Just get used to it.

I agree! Regardless if the standby button ACTUALLY saved battery, it helped my self esteem to think I was actually contributing somehow to trying to have a longer battery life

4.7 was a joke. the constant 552 errors etc was the a big enough problem to make me never enjoy my BB. yes, it doesn't do it anymore of course, since i started to use the os5 leaks while back, but i was just appalled at how long it took to get addressed (yes i know it was Verizon's fault). i will never forget the inconvenience that constantly caused me during routine app upgrades/theme installs/app removals/etc. cannot wait until the end of the year comes so i can go Android

anyway, back on topic & after my rant, i actually didn't like the lock screen/method in 4.7. i always had to stare at my phone for 2-3 seconds to make sure it actually went into lock mode... now it's INSTANT

no it doesnt. if you have a password you still have to wait the set amount of time for the password to kick in

You do realize that pressing the lock button on the new 5.0 OS is the same as standby on the 4.7 OS.

If you want to password lock your phone you can do so by pressing "K" when "dial from the home screen," is off or it can be assigned to one of the convenience keys.
