I have tried and tried to downgrade my os from 5.0.0.591. I finally found a link for 4.7 and dowloaded it on my computer. (when I follow the link to download the older os (the verizon link), the only option is the newest (buggy) os)
I wiped the bb and reinstalled everything...(following the directions listed on the CB article) it put 5.0.0.591 BACK on!!! When I go to control panel, there is only one device software listed and it is 4.7.
I started completely over and reinstalled the desktop manager. Before I wipe it again, I tried to make sure the desktop manager could find the older version of the OS.
When I run the application loader, it is not there. When I select "update software", it tells me there are no updates available. When I select Add/Remove appliations, there are NO os listed there.
What am I missing? This os has rendered my bb nearly unusable.
Have you tried this after disconnecting from the internet?
After downloading the OS you want to your pc, disconnect your PC from the internet, remove 591 via control panel, install the desired operating system on the PC, and then try to install to the device.
If you're sure .591 is not listed in add/remove programs, and that you have ran the 4.7 file you have downloaded, (although I'd go with 5.0.0.419, or 484, and this works for either of those too...), go to c:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader, delete "vendor.exe" if the OS you have isn't from your carrier, and then in that same folder, when you're ready to install the OS to the BB, run loader.exe.
I only use DM for backing up my device, never for installing OS.

I would follow Sandman's advice and go with either the Sprint or NON-verizon OS 5. But instead of "vendor.exe" it is vendor.xml that you need to delete.

Yes, I concur "vendor.xml" is the correct file. Good catch, sorry, I've had about 2 hours of sleep since early Thurs afternoon.

I really appreciate the advice. I still can't seem to tell the loader where to find the os. I used loader.exe this time and It simply opens the same application loader window and shows only apps that area available... no os.
Maybe she means .419. Can download it right from RIM on the MTS mobility page if that's what you want. Of course you have to lie to them about whether you are with that carrier or not.

Finally got it downgraded.... I had to use a different PC. I used one that had never had any bb software on it. Yes... I was dyslexic, it tried 5.0.0.419. From reading here, it sounded like people had good experience with that version. So far, so good, but my problems with the official release were intermittent.
