So I have had issues with my Tour. I'm on 4.7.61. The trackerball will sometimes bring me to the call screen when I click it and then sometimes when I type, instead of typing the letter I press, it will enter "hl".

So, I went to the Verizon store nearest to me and they said it was probably a glitch and that I should upgrade to the 5.0.591 software. Well then I told them I did on my first Tour and would it cause another crash. They said it may and it may not. RIM evidently gave them a percentage of how many phones this problem affects. So I got home last night and upgraded to 5.0.591. Well after sleeping on it, I have decided to downgrade back to 4.7.61. I just don't feel comfortable on .591. Even though they said they would replace the phone if it crashes. I don't want to have that in my mind that it's just a matter of time.

So I guess I will deal with the issue and maybe it will be gone now though.

Do you think I should have stayed on .591?

I think unless you're going to use PTT you should use .419 or .484 or a hybrid.

I've never attempted to use a non-verizon update, so I'm afraid I will mess it up.

BTW, I tried to downgrade back to 4.7.61 and my issues listed above were still there. Actually got worse overnight. So I'm going back to .591.

It's not that hard if you search. I'm with USCellular and using Sprints .484. There are a lot of problems with vzw .591 build.

Can I get in trouble for installing a non-vzw update on my phone? Like if I had to bring it in and they notice it's a non-vzw update.

If you are running something other than Verizon-released software, they can't support it. You won't get in trouble; you'll just have to reinstall a Verizon release before they can accept a warranty claim or attempt to work on your phone.

Ok. Just a quick question. Is .591 going to be the last software update from Verizon? I know they are going to stop making Tours in June for VZW.

I don't think anyone can say for sure. Verizon probably doesn't know yet. But I expect that we'll see one more release that attempts to fix the worst problems with 5.0.0.591: the technical error, the playing of unwanted music files, and the double-click issue.

OK, I'm trying to install a non-vzw update but am having trouble.

Trying to follow these steps, but when I get to disconnect internet, the non-vzw os doesn't show up under the DM

Did you miss step 6, installing the update? You have to double-click it after downloading it.

Yes I did that. I downloaded it to my desktop and ran it. Since I'm on Vierzon, I don't worry about step 7 do I?

The version you downloaded should be the only one installed on your computer, if there are others go to add/remove programs and uninstall them.

Also I think you want to disconnect from the internet before you load DM.

Just another quick question. If I were to stick with .591 and it were to brick my phone. I would then be on my third tour. Do you think I could try to switch to the Curve or Bold? Or ****, at this point, I would ask if I could go back to my original BB phone, the Storm. LOL.

You still need to do Step 7 if you are installing a non-Verizon OS on a Verizon phone. You can always try to switch devices. The worst that can happen is they give you a 4th Tour.

I may just stick with .591 and if it bricks, I will tell them this is my 3rd Tour in like 4 months.

Well I went to Verizon and all they can do is replace the phone. I didn't want a 3rd Tour, so I just had them re-active my Storm (1st one). So I will use my Storm for the foreseeable future.
