Does anyone know if the RIM instant messaging programs (AIM, MSN, ETC) are also based on the same PUSH system BBM is thus preserving battery life as much as possible? how about any of the third party apps like palringo, IM+ etc
any input would be awesome

If you load the RIM versions, they are. I've had Yahoo Messenger since day 1, active 24/7, with no detrimental effect to battery life.
As to 3rd party IM apps, no clue.

As far as I have seen, the only battery sucker as far as IM apps go has been BBM.
