I was wondering if i should get some sort of insurance or extended warranty with the tour... Plus, is there anything I should be aware of ie. manufacture's warranty is good enough?

why not get it? if you don't need it then at least you can get a new phone in a year... when its "accidentally" ran over by a car.

I'd much rather pay $200 across two years than almost $500 (after tax) for a new phone should anything happen to mine.

I would. I fell in the lake with my Tour last weekend (it was all of 5 days old). Called up Asurion, paid my deductible ($89 but reimbursed by my work) and had my new phone Tuesday.

They total me total replacement was $7.99. The old $4.99 & $5.99 were now $6.99 and $7.99. To me it still doesnt matter. The now $90 deductible is still worth it compared to a $500 bill.

There are better insurance options out there.
    Check your homeowner's insurance policy.
    Check your credit card's policies.
If you are a student, check out CSI (College Student Insurance).
And there are many others out there, just because VZW offers it doesn't mean it's through them, it's through a 3rd party in the first place (Asurion) and there are many complaints (as well as compliments) about them. I would highly recommend doing some research before shilling out money.

my formula for deciding on insurance is . . . if the monthly cost of insurance (over 2 years) plus the deductible is greater than the cost of buying the phone brand new, then do NOT buy insurance (because it would be cheaper to buy a new phone than making an insurance claim).

ex. $6 a month X 24 months = $144 + $90 deductible = $234 total out of pocket to replace your phone via insurance (assuming you replace your phone only once during your 2 year agreement)

I would look and see if you Retailers in your area offer a program called Protect Cell...great program..cheaper in the long run and cheaper deductible
