Why do phones hate me? Plugged in to my computer, or unplugged, all I get is a solid red LED. It wont turn on. WTF. And I cant restore it with the desktop manager because it wont register my device.

Did you try taking out the battery for about 30 secs then putting it back in?

Others may have a better idea, but I've seen something similar once where the batter was too dead to even attempt to boot up, but the LED was solid like you said.
First, I would try charging for 5-6 hours, and see if you can get a boot-up then. If not, I would take it to the store, and ask if they can try a known-good battery as a test in your phone, to see if it will boot.
Several times. Also tried multiple USB ports to try and get it connected to my computer so I can get it restored. Nothing seems to work.
a solid red light will appear.. followed by a white screen with an hour glass... is that where your at?
if so, it will take 5 or more minutes for your phone to start up
My battery wasnt fully charged, but it wasnt dead. I dont think. My friend has a tour, I'll try his battery.
It most likely just needs to be charged for atleast an hour uninterrupted.
Thats what it looks like. Its booting up now on my friends battery. I hope my battery is just dead and not messed up internally. I'm coming off of a winmo phone that will TRY to start up, then just die when the battery gets that dead. I get scared when it doesnt even try.
Im thinking the same thing, dead battery or your just not giving it enough time to reboot.

Yeah, Blackberry's need a good chunk of battery just to boot up... not sure on any current numbers but on early OS's, my storm easily used up 5-8% just to boot...
Anyways my fiancee's Tour went through this about 3 weeks ago.. one day randomly, after she thought she charged it the night before, it had the same problems you are.
My theory at the time was that something got stuck running in the background and chewed through the battery (to the point where it didn't have enough charge to boot). Still not sure exactly what happened, but after I gave it a good charge, I've been using it in my Tour since (again, about 3-4 weeks) with no problems or adverse effects on the battery.
