Sounds like you are on a fringe data area.

1XEV means you have EVDO data connection to the cell provider's network, and, you are connected to RIM. When it goes lower case, you've lost connection with RIM.

Make sure its Not in Global for network settings, and in automatic 1XEV. That will keep your Tour from continuously searching for tower signals and update your PRL.

On Verizon you want it on Global Verizon is CDMA not GSM Sprint is also CDMA not GSM

    Data Services ON
    Mobile Network Automatic
Network Technology should be set to Global

    works just fine

The only time I saw 1XEV change to 1Xev was roughly 3wks ago when BB server went down "due to BBM bugs"... weirded me out.

The thing is i live in the suburbs where there are a lot and i do mean a lot of trees, so it usually goes to 1xev or roams periodically.

You're contradicting yourself. "Global" turns on the GSM radio, and 1XEV is CDMA. Unless OP wants to use a sim card and a GSM network, he should set it at 1XEV so that he conserves battery power.

I don't know. Vzw has either Automatic or Home Only as my choices.
