I have a backup from my old Tour 5.0.0.230 OS. I just got a new Tour and I want to restore the backup to this phone but this OS is the stock Verizon OS.

    1. Can I restore the backup without issue to the new phone if I don't upgrade the OS right away?

    2. If I restore the backup to the new phone that currently has the stock Verizon OS, will the backup overwrite the stock OS and in the end I'll have 5.0.0.230 and the phone in the current state as my old?

    Thanks

I tried not to make it confusing

A DM backup is personal data only. It does not include the OS. You can install your old backup without affecting your currently installed OS.

Not to hijack the thread... OK maybe just a little

Using the backup from desktop 5.01 I can restore personal data and most settings, but what about the installed 3rd part apps?

3rd party apps have to be backed up and restored separately from the personal data that's saved in a DM backup. Forums Moderator Crucial Xtreme created a procedure for that purpose. You can find it in the How To and FAQ Forum.
