I might be getting a tour and have read that later versions have an updated trackball. Can you tell from the box (or the serial number) when the BB was made?
And does anybody know what the cutoff date is for the tours that have trackballs that people don't like?
"green dot" tours are the most recent one's to come out that are "supposed" to be rid of the trackball issue but a lot of users are still reporting some trackball issues, but most carriers will replace the device if these problems occur
great post, I'm gonna chek my box when I get home, however I do remember the sprint guy telling me there wasn't such a sticker that says exact manufacturer date

I'll have to check my box to tell you exactly where it is at, but the Sprint boxes DO give the date, but it is in the following format DDMMYY. It is on the lower right hand side. My first Tour was something like 170709 (July 17, 2009) but my new one is 170909 (Sept 17, 2009).
Thanks everybody. If I get a tour, I'll make sure it was manufactured after 8/2/09.

Chances are if you are ordering it from Sprint, you will get one manufactured after that date. But still double-check to ensure. And don't hesitate to ask for a replacement if problems come up.

If I have to, I'll have the salesperson bring out about 5 boxes and I'll pick through them until I find one with the right date.
And if the above doesn't work, I'll ask em to bring out more boxes...
I finally got Sprint to agree to both mine and my wife's Tours after a month of them telling me that this is a "normal problem with BBs with a trackball, just clean it.". I have seen what a dirty ball is like with m curve, and this is not it. Oh well, they ordered me 2 to get to the store tomorrow, hopefully these are good!

Thanks for the info on where to find the manufactured date on the box from Sprint. I checked mine and it's was manufactured on August 11, 2009 so from a date standpoint I guess I'm good. I notice the trackball is perfectly sensitive/accurate but nothing that tells me "there is DEFINITELY something wrong here."Pretty happy with my tour thus far. It took a drop once while I had it in the leather holster it came with, now I have it in an Otterbox defender case and baby it. Haven't noticed a change in performance.
I just joined this site after a friend told me about it. I am going to be ordering the tour shortly from verizon. My question is, does anyone think I'll get a "green dot" if i order it from verizon's website (renewing my contract and getting the tour), later this month. or possibly the start of november...what are the chances of getting a "green dot"?
Although if I have to wait until November, there is a rumor of a Curve 2.

I'm going on Tour #4 and #3 was a "green dot". Trackball failed again within 3 weeks. Spinning left or right only moves 1 or 2 icons at a time. Sometimes I get lucky and it actually moves backwards. I believe the date on my "green dot" (#3) was 9/5/09. Bad luck I guess....
