It doesn't work that way. For every device they have out there under contract, they have to keep a certain percentage on hand for warranty replacements, not to mention people who come walking in off the street and want a Storm or Curve instead of a Niagara.
A Verizon store isn't quite like a Target or Walmart trying to make room for something else, because virtually every phone sold comes with a 2 year service agreement. Meaning Verizon is on pretty much on the hook to ensure you have a working phone for that period, provided you don't destroy the phone due to a willful or negligent actions.
The idea behind the sale is simply to get more people signed up for service contracts. They eat a one time fee on the phone, and make it up with the service contracts. You don't have to take my word for it though. Ask anyone you know in marketing to tell you what they think is behind it.
i understand what you are saying bigman...but warranty replacements are refurbs. why would they need to keep new stock on shelves for warranty replacements???
Chip is right, VZW would lose revenue if they offered brand new phones as replacements instead of the refurbs
I don't think every phone rep is a refurb. Also the Niagara is not going to be replacing every model, verizons BOGO sale is to get more subscribers not clean out inventory completely

not to mention vzw is likely going to sell the curve for a while, its not being replaced by the 9630.
The real tell in all of this will be if VZW offers a lower price or some sort of better deal on the 8830 than the Curve. Since the 9630 is replacing the 8830 they will want to reduce the stock of them before this release. However, I wouldn't expect this to happen until after the announcement of the 9630.
if you're sure you're going to switch to the niagara, i'd do this asap.
the longer you wait the more chance that the storm 2 will get announced -- who's gonna wait the original (fail) storm then?
Can't wait for the new iPhone in July!

"I have also been able to confirm that the company is prepping a new hybrid Blackberry that will feature both a full QWERTY keypad and a touch screen... will be exclusively available on Verizon when it comes to the US, and should be available, I'm told, "in the next few months." "
So, do you think this guy is getting his vaporwares mixed up? He's got the Niagara confused with the Pluto?
Or have we gotten a snowjob on the Niagara while RIM is about to release a touchscreen Pluto?
Interesting....
At this point.....I just want a new phone...I don't care if it's the Niagara or the Pluto....just give me something dammit!
