It is really all about personal preference and what you want to do with it. I have had 3 blackberries (8800>9000>9800) and have currently ended up with a Samsung Captivate. In the end the reasons I ended up with the Captivate was weight and certain functionality that BB just doesn't have. That doesn't mean the 9800 isn't a great phone. It just didn't meet my expecations at the time as an upgrade from my 9000. I like the 9000 and still think it is probably better then both personally(from a raw phone perspective).
The OS was very flaky and the beginning and didn't help with my reservations about the Tourch either. I hope it has gotten better and from what I have heard that is true.
The problem with any device is don't buy it expecting things to change down the road as there is not guarentee of anything when the phone companies are involved. Find what best phone that fits your needs when you buy it. Then anything added to that is gravey.
I personally love the concept BB 10k, that would bring me back to BB in a heartbeat.
In many cases comments about things like battery life are over exaggerated on both fronts, BB and Android. I can have my Captivate last 2 days or 3 hours depending on how i use it. It was the same with the 9800 and my 9000.
Not sure about the others but ATT atleast will let you buy it and try it out for 30 days. If you don't like it just return it.
