Don't hold your breath for Flash. It may come to the Torch but there hasn't been any announcement of such a thing...and RIM may be content on waiting until QNX become their handheld phone OS with Flash support.

As for reviews about the device...I mean...there must be 100 threads in this forum of people describing their personal love or hate the Torch.

This is very biased but a few months back when all the trolls and haters were trying to make it seem like the phone was a failure I compiled this list - take it with a grain of salt and remember it was also a time when the OS was not as polished:

    Wow jeffreii,
I cant beleive you took the time to actually find all those threads let alone post them all.

As for the OP, Not quite sure what you mean by "changeable keyboard" unless you want a white one?

I myself came from a curve and couldn't be happier with my torch. The large touch screen is nice, trackpad as opposed to trackball is responsive and doesn't get all gunked up like the ball used to, browser is a joy to use as opposed to os5 browser.

Unfortunately I doubt you'll see flash on a BB anytime soon, at least not until QNX based OS's come out. From what I've read of flash on current devices that have it, it is slow and cumbersome and kills the battery so fast it's not worth having.

Personally I would take better battery life over having flash any time any day.

Best bet is to jump in and give it a week. you should be able to make up your mind on whether you want to keep it or throw it against a wall. If the latter applies you can easily take it back and get something else, like the 9780(least that's what everyone that hates the torch is jumping to.)

I totally agree with the two posters above me. Just wanna add my 2 cents here.

You are really not missing anything by not having flash on your mobile browser. I am using iOS devices and I have used Android before. I rarely notice the need for flash on both devices as there are more and more sites converting their video to HTML5 for full compatibility with the majority of devices.

Flash on Android, frankly speaking, is rather clunky and again, unless you HAVE to work with flash based sites (not just video), you are really not missing anything.

To the OP, I suggest you read as much as can and get unbiased reviews on the device, go to your local retail location and play with it for a bit. If you decide to get it an are not satisfied with it I believe most carriers will alow you to return within a specified time frame. Best of luck to you.

You can read many reviews and opinions for and against it. Other people liking it won't make you like it, nor will other people hating it make you hate it. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is if YOU like it.

So... try it out. If you like it... Great! If you don't, try something else which I guess would be the 9780.

Just going to throw in my 2 cents here. I love blackberry and wouldn't use anything else because a lot of my social life feeds off of it (BBM) and the convinience of everything else is a plus. I love the blackberry operating system but I wanted a touch screen device. My family all uses iPhones so I have used them and I like the use of a touch screen but I hate on screen keyboards, so needless to say to torch was perfect for me. I've had the device for a month and only had one hiccup (had to swap devices at rogers because mine completely died, not screen wobble) and I've been incredibly happy with the decide. There is a learning curve, but I found that by the end second day I had the device I was completely used to it and couldn't be happier.

These questions are almost impossible to answer. If you are looking for a flashy, fun, impress your friends, watch videos, play games, kind of phone, then there are a lot better ones available. However, if your priorities are organization, business, texts, email, etc., then the Torch does all of this flawlessly in a variety of ways. It's still a Blackberry.

A lot of the negative reviews were based on early software when the phone first came out. Try to find reviews that are recent (at least within the last month).

You can change the language you type in, but the keyboard will always be English keys. To my knowledge there is no other keyboard available for any berry. Of course I could be wrong.

Opinions are like a$$holes; everyone has one.

My opinion of the Torch is that you have a solid device with very good battery life, excellent memory management, and a very good keyboard.
(I had the Bold 9000 for two years prior and the Torch is a huge upgrade.)
I would highly recommend this device, as there is nothing like it in the BB arsenal!

    OP,

Outside of your keyboard concerns, understand your carriers return / remorse policy. Purchase and use the device within those conditions and make your own decesion. Before you start, ensure the device has at least OS6 v246. I am sure, you will decide to keep the device. We can help with battery life later.

I upgraded from Bold 9000 to torch, and at first thought I had made a mistake not waiting for 9780, mainly due to issues getting used to touchscreen again. Then I tried the 9780 in store, screen seemed tiny , device too small for me. Glad I went torch route, happy with the device and i can see it getting better with os releases.

Doesn't it really hurt going back from the best keyboard of the 9000 with big, bulged out buttons compared to the small flat out keys of the Torch?

There is no comparison dude, the 9800 is the flagship device of RIM, it has the best of Both Worlds.......Touch screen for navigation in the OS, and browsing......which makes it a breeze.......and a real keyboard to type when you need to type those emails or chat.....It's your choice, they are both the best 2 devices from RIM but the Torch stands out with the touch screen and HUUUUGE *** display that's a pleasure for viewers be it watching a movie or browsing, I can't go back to those mini small screens of BOLDs

So, IMO, the Torch is a massive leap forward and the best BB I have ever used. Now having said that, I think you need to decide what you are most interested in and then read the reviews as has been suggested. Take the time to also seperate the OS from the phone as there are now several phones that carry OS 6. If you want a touch screen based phone with the new OS or you really like the idea of the slider keyboard, then I think the Torch is the by far the best BB option out there. I have been using it since it came out and have not lost any of my love for the phone. I have not had any real challenges with it (although I HIGHLY suggest a good case, I use the ottberbox commuter).

It is not an IPhone or an Adroid substitute. It is a great blend, however, of some of what makes those phones cool, plus the all of the benefits of a blackberry in a much more user friendly and engaging platform. Just my two cents.

Torch came in handy last night. Comcast internet was down on most of the East Coast. Since I had added a wireless router to my modem 2 days earlier I was worried that my internet problems were caused by that. I used my phone to get on Twitter and read that everyone in the East was having problems. The big screen on the Torch made it much easier.
Of course, when the Playbook is released the big phone screen won't be such a deal breaker.
