Time for a Torch?
I am days away from walking into my local mobility provider and upgrading from my old trusty Pearl to a Torch.
My questions: 1) Does the Torch offer Wi-Fi connection? My old Pearl old connects via a network, which can get expensive. My workplace offers free Wi-Fi from wall to wall and I would like to take advantage of this. 2) How easy can I bring over BBM messenger contacts? I have plenty of high level contact which I do not want to do the "sorry I need to re-add you to my BBM".

Torch does support wifi and it works seamlessly between 3G and Wifi.
BBM can easily be transferred by installing Blackberry Desktop Manager found on the Blackberry website. Use the switch device option and follow the transfer wizard.
-
I guess I should "back up" my current BB with the Desktop Manager first?
-
You just need to select the Switch Device option in DM and it will do the back up and switch for you.
As for wi-fi, the Torch has B/G and N.....and it works great.

Make sure that you have the most current DM 6.0 version. Connect the old device.DSW. Connect the Torch.
Make sure that OS .246 shipped with your device.

Actually to be safe yoshould back up your phone with DM and then download new BBM (you might already have it) and backup contacts locally (in the BBM options) it is a lot easier to restore your contscts with a local backup than DM (DM doesn't always work properly for me)

Does doing this still require everyone on your list to change your pin on their devices bum contact list?
-
No, they won't even notice you changed phone. It's all done in the background. No need to re-add.

All my folks had to accept my new pin. I did the device switch, all my contacts were in bbm but the first time I messaged each, it told me they had not added me as a contact and I had to click invite and wait for them to accept before messaging. Maybe I did somwthing wrong?
