AT&T's President of Wireless Operations in the US West, Fred Devereux, hinted today that sales of the BlackBerry Torch were disappointing. He told those at Seattle's Mobile Future Forward conference that he was "surprised there hasn't been a faster adoption" of the phone, which he thought was the best-ever BlackBerry to date. He didn't provide numbers, but the statement was unusual and backed unofficial analyst views that sales had cooled quickly after launch.
Follow-up remarks suggested that Apple and Google may have been the primary factors. There was "tremendous momentum" for Android, Devereux said. The company only has a handful of Android devices headlined by the Samsung Captivate, but the iPhone has been a perpetual strong seller at AT&T and this year is still seeing shortages, even after nearly three months of availability.
Various factors have been speculated behind any possible sluggishness in Torch sales. As the BlackBerry is still led by corporate sales, many customers may simply be tied to work accounts that won't or can't upgrade automatically. Electronista and others have also pointed out technical issues that may have disappointed buyers and led them to switch, such as a display resolution and processor unchanged from 2008 despite the more demanding BlackBerry 6 platform.
Regardless of choice, the executive thought it was "amazing" how many could spend $200 on a smartphone and noticed the trends weren't slowing. "People are not buying basic phones anymore," he said.
i'm not surprised nor bothered by this..
i like the phone since day 1.. i'm still liking it.. end of story.
i don't really care if 5 or 50 people in the subway has the same phone..
i will actually feel bad if every Tom,**** and Harry has the torch.. it makes my phone too common..

I wouldn't want to see the streets flooded with the Torch, either. I don't like everyone and their brother having the same phone as I do. I had deal with enough of that with the 83xx Curves. But I would like to see it do well, because I like RIM and want the BlackBerry to continue to prosper and grow(and maybe even start to be more innovative and cutting edge) BlackBerry is what I prefer.

the Ads for the Torch are flooding the TV and the internet..
they should have taken a page from Steve and did that before the release..
Manufacture a certain hype... make people want the device more.. things like that!
I've wondered why someone would come here and relentlessly only post comments, reviews, and articles that knock or otherwise impugn the Torch.
But you know what? You're right. The Torch is a complete POS. I've been deluding myself these past few weeks. The happiness and satisfaction this device has brought me has been nothing but a complete illusion.

From now on, I'm going to be just like you. I'm going to exchange this mini-door stop for a rilly cool Captivate, move into my mom's basement, and stream porn and play games all day long. Oh, yeah, and troll on CB. Just like you.
Droid is across multiple carries (which the Torch should have been) and the iPhone had the big "leak' scandal shortly before it was officially launched, giving it MUCH more hype.
I almost didn't bite the bullet since I was a Sprint customer... but the Torch looked too sweet. However, I'm sure there are MANY others out there who WOULD be buying the Torch if they didn't have to change carriers.

everyone allways wants to be first with news doent really matter anymore if its true or not. just like people were reporting the torch price was slashed to $99 that was a completely false it would have taken a minute to find out that that wasd not true did they care nope! so i honestly dont believe any of thes articles anymore

I don't know what AC is - and I can assure you I most likely could care less. I know that I would never go to a iPhone forum and talk about how crappy I think they are. Or an Android forum. I just googled iPhone sucks and there are plenty of people who think they do.
I come here for information about the phone I have.

I'm 100% sure that you walked into the AT&T store with that exact thought: "I'm gonna buy this Torch because no one else is buying it. I hate when I see other people with my phone!"
