For those of you who upgraded from BOLD 9000 or 9700 to TORCH 9800, did you notice a difference in sound quality?

I had a bold 9000 and it had the best sound Iíve heard from a phone. I thought it was even better than the iPhone 3. Best part about the 9000 was i can put it in "hands free" mode and listen to the other person very clearly even if the phone is about 4 feet away from me.

I am noticing very poor quality in the 9800.

Could it be just my device? Has anyone done any comparison with other phones to the sound quality?

I'm finding that the volume is pretty quiet even when set on max. Its not just you I think its the speaker RIM used it just plain sucks. I have exchanged mine 3 times and all three same results with being pretty quiet.

upgraded from bold 9000 and same experience. Volume and speaker sound quality vastly inferior.

Upgrade your OS to .337, many have said that fixes the sound problem

Sound with a BB has been an issue since back when I had my curve. Every OS upgrade on that model made the sound quieter and quieter. Now with the torch it is about par with the last OS upgrade on the curve. My best guess, and this is purely a guess, RIM doesn't want to be sued for blowing out someones eardrums cause they were to stupid to turn the volume down. So they have done it for you.

    EDIT:
According to specs the 9800, 9700, 9870, 8310 and so on all, Of all the current models they all use the same external speaker.

Very hard to find a phone these days that is comparable to the 9000 in terms of speaker quality.

That is because the 9000 had 2 (yes, count em, two) speakers because there was just so much room in the frame.

I thought the 9000 had 3 speakers. One on the very top and 2 on the sides.
    Awesome sound!!

    The 9000 speakers Ruled !
I find the Torch good enough compared to iphone 4 and most android phones. The price you pay to have the larger screen, keyboard, more memory and a lit keyboard.
