My daughter's Torch is acting up and I thought maybe some type of reload or restore of the OS might help it, but she is terrified that she will lose her data - mostly her text messages which she apparently intends to keep forever. Can all her "stuff" be saved and restored? Or will it even be lost? She would rather use a half broken phone than lose her messages, but we just bought this thing a couple of months ago and I want to take it back if we can't get it to work right. Please keep in mind that I'm an iphone user and I know absolutely nothing about the Blackberry.
    Thanks.

Yes you can back up with Desktop Manager.

I'm guessing it doesn't have the latest leaked OS 6.0.0.337. I would probably upgrade to that and then restore data from Desktop Manager.

Here is a tutorial on upgrading, while backing up and restoring apps and data (like texts, and emails)

For step 2 & 7 in the advanced procedure, i use bbsak instead to backup third party apps and to wipe.

246 or 337 should work great and yes take a backup with DM.
