message display with white covering 50% of bottom

I'm a new blackberry user and I must've changed the settings on how my messages and text messages are displayed by accident. When I go into either app the display screen has a white box that covers half of the screen. So instead of viewing messages and history on the whole screen, I can only view 1 or 2 at a time. I've gone throough all the setting options and cannot figure out what I changed. Can anybody help me ?!?

Ok, I figured out how to fix it even though I'm still not sure how it happened. Open text message app, make sure phone is closed so the touch keyboard can be used. Turn horizontal, click on new message then click the back arrow. This should fix the screen and bring it to full size.
