I never had this problem with the 9700.. It is a pain though.. It should open itself if you stay on the screen.

It isn't your phone doing it is his. Blackberry's will take a text message that is over a single SMS (160 characters) and will turn it into a MMS message. Where as other phones do not do this, they break them down into two or even three different SMS messages.

Edit: If you look on your phone at the top it has a 160/ 1 of 6 at the top, it counts down the characters for you, so in the case of send a message to someone with the type of phone and you want it to fit on one you know.

I have not had this happen on my Torch, but on my 8350i I would need to use the BB button to click on "retrieve message" or something of that nature.

With my 9700, I could type to my heart's delight over teh 160 char. limit and it would start a new pg. 2 text. With my torch...no go. If I type over 160 characters, the receiver gets a blank text. I had to have 4 people tell me this before I believed them. So now, i have to keep the texts to under 160 char. for them to read the whole thing.

I dont have this issue...i can easily text over the 160 chars and it still lets me text away...the other person gets the text no matter how short or long it is....same when i receive a text...i will get the text whether its short or very long.

I have never had this issue. If I go over 160 char it just sends as 2 msgs, if received over 160 it splits it into 2 but both come at the same time and are displayed in a single text "bubble".

If you open up your text message and select Options..there should be one for Combine Sequential Messages. Not sure if this will solve the problem or not..but i'd give it a shot. Otherwise there's a nice app called CrunchSMS that should allow you to text as much as you want and it will break the messages up for you. I've used it..works good, although i've never had an issue with it not breaking my text up with the standard BB text.

Yep exact same thing that happens with my 9800...doesnt matter if the text is 4-5 messages long...i always get one bubble but ill get a notification that i received 4-5 text messages though lol.

Have you tried crunch sms? That may help with this issue.

I just sent 160 "w"s and 10 "V"s all in the same message Torch to Torch - no issues. The sending Torch is running a 359 hybrid and the rcving Torch is on 246.
