Has anybody noticed that the formatting on certain sites is different with this update? When I'm on the mobile version of this site, the spacing between lines of text seems much smaller and appears really squished together. This makes it really difficult to select individual links via touch. Its not a deal breaker for me, as the browsing is way smoother and my battery life seems improved.

Much better browser enhancements. Faster scrolling & rendering. Also the bar at the top has an little arrow that will rocket you back to the top of the web page. Nice.

You can't tap on an email or the messages header in the notifications tab. When I tap on the email or messages tab all I get is calendar. Tried another theme and that didn't fix it. I'm going to try the themes from the last build. If that doesn't fix it, I'm downgrading back. Major fail.

New to updating the OS this way, just have a curious question.

Is this release the actual final one? (Ofc carriers will release their own with their own stuff added etc).
I just ask as it is from the French RIM site, why is not from all sites or in fact through updates on DM.

I apologise if these are obvious dumb questions as on my old BB's I did my updates through the updates available through DM.
May have taken longer for them to be released, just felt more official I guess.

    Thanks.
There is never a 'final' release. RIM makes OS updates available and it's upto the carrier to test and decide if they want to release it. As of now, this release is only official through a French carrier, but it would be no different than an AT&T version should they choose to eventually put it out (ie there's nothing carrier specific within the OS itself).

The cons are the above and with regard to the text when browsing...I changed my browser default font size up to 10 and that seems to have done the trick

I'm already finding an improvement in battery life. It's been off the charger since 8:30am and by this time on .246, it would have been down to 75% with constant BBM and a few calls. Now with the same constant use and .284, I'm only down to 90%.

Much more responsive and fluid, and I have to say the browser is much faster on this build. Overall I'm very pleased with this version.

I haven't noticed much difference tbh. Uma still doesn't keep settings. Speed is about the same. Browsing is the same. Only improvement (slight) is battery life. Solid build same as 246

HTC Theme works perfectly..since it doesnt have the Notification bar to begin with..so therefore no problems. I personally find the "Notification" bar redundant anyways..

Browser speed and page rendering alone make this upgrade WELL worth it imo. But then again i've never had the SMS issue nor use the stock theme.
My only gripe i guess would be that now if I tap a link on the web browser by mistake it's already loading the page before I can hit the correct one (hitting the 9700 forums instead of 9800 forums for example).

Now have 284 running for 18 hours. I've experienced all bugs previously mentioned in this thread, and need to role back to .161 due to all the info below.

The bug that causes this phone to not be recognized by certain conference services' menu systems still exists. I've already spent the past 1.5 months working with RIM, AT&T and the AT&T Conference Service technicians. They all agree that this is a bug that can only be addressed via a fix in the OS. Version 284 doe NOT provide this fix. I hope the official engineering request that was registered under my name at RIM gets attention in the next OS build.

Here's the issue: Once connected to AT&T's conference service all physical and virtual keyboard input is ignored. Here's the test: Dial this number (866-213-1962), *as soon as* you hear the menu voice start speaking then press any number. If the voice keeps on talking after you've pressed a number then you are experiencing this bug. The voice should halt immediately (mid word) and go silent waiting for more input upon that first number press. Technicians confirmed with a line trace that there is no signal coming from the phone even as I press and hear a key tone. RIM also experienced it first hand when they tried it on their Torch. Level 3 Specialists at RIM agree this is a bug, but can not guarantee when it will be fixed.

This issue does not exist for OS version 141 and 161, so (sadly) I need to go back to 161 as my professional life depends on mobile use of the only conference service I'm allowed to use for work since they pay for the service.

Truth be told: I didn't expect the fix to be in this leak as its obviously meant for a foreign carrier.

Please, RIM.....See my registered bug fix request, and get it fixed quickly.

You're always going to find an inconsistant result here. We are not trained testers and while everyone has the same device each have different apps installed. Some wipe first, some use DM to load others 3rd part software. Can even boild down to the PC the OS gets origianlly installed onto (were you connected to the internet at the time, did you re-boot after ininstalling the previous OS, did you have other programs running at the same time...). The possibilities are endless.

When true QA is performed all these variables are taken into account when testing and analyzing results. Since we don't have access to any of that info, take these findings for what you like...

Upggraded last night and haven't seen much difference. One thing I noticed was that while connected via wifi, the transmit arrows seem to be constantly blinking even when No activity. I don't recall that on 246. Anyone else noticed that?

    Thanks

Upgraded from .225 about 8 hours ago and it's running good. Noticed a couple of things.
The touch screen seems more responsive, not such a big step as going from .141 to .225 but it's better.
The browser is loading pages faster than before and pinch to zoom is better and renders the text almost immediately.
As for the notifications bug, I don't recall tapping the message icon to read messages in the past, I just went to the message app. If I try it now, the usual three calendar entries are displayed together with the message icon and underneath the message icon is the first line of the message. That line can be selected with the track pad or by tapping and it takes me to the message. I don't see this as a bug, probably just programmed that way.
All in all a worth while upgrade.

after some difficulty, upgraded to .284 yesterday afternoon. as reported by a few in the other thread, a missing modules error prevented download via the dm. download was completed using the apploader.

    what i've found/issues:

home page has been "streamlined," if you will. search bar has been integrated into the notification bar.

when accessing notifications, the full date (mm/dd) is visible in both landscape and portrait mode.

someone mentioned an inability to access messages on the notification page. not here. so far have accessed both email and voicemail.

am having browser issues. resetting the browser home page took some effort. espn icon still not working properly. it does access espn but each time click the icon, it opens a new tab and opens the blackberry home page. clueless on how to resolve this.

battery performance not nearly what it was with .246. less than 24 hours after fully charging my phone, am at 45% remaining. with .246 i'd be at 70% or better.

experiencing some issue in navigating in certain folders with the trackpad.

have not played with the browser enough to comment.

comment: and i may be mixing apples and oranges but this goes to the suggestion that there's no difference in official versions from one carrier to the next. i downloaded another carrier's version of .246 and had that on my torch for a few days before att released the official version. battery performance, in particular, was significantly better with the att version. this leads me to wonder (ask) is there really no difference between official os versions from carrier to carrier? the problem many are having trying to load .284 via the dm suggests yes.

one other thing, am very, very curious about mywireless appearing on devices. granted, it doesn't work but i have looked and can't find it. as usual, att is being very coy/secretive about it's development/release.

I just installed the update using apploader and it went as smooth as can be. So far I do feel the pinch, zoom and scroll feel a bit snappier. I am not sure about the speed of rendering pages. It feels the same to me. There is definitly bug trying to access the calendar from the notification area. I can do it with the trackpad but if I tap on the screen it takes me to the first item in the calendar list, rather than the agenda itself. Other than that nothing to report yet. I will write again after some time using the update. Oh, one other thing that is a bit of a pain is that the fonts on webpages are definitly smaller regardless of the font size setting I choose. I guess just have to zoom them for now.

Upgraded to .284 earlier and still get micro stutters on the phone every now and again but it's not the end of the world. BBM has been hacking me off a bit today, taking forever to deliver messages but I think that might be just down to poor signal on the other end.

Again nothing world killing, want to see the battery performance with .284 though.

I don't know what's going on but its too much coincidence to ignore. Since the upgrade my BB key to access menus has become very erratic and works intermittantly. I will have to downgrade and see if the problem goes away. Will report after
