I just notice that the keyboard backlight is on even if the slider is in the closed position. This isn't good as it will certainly drain the battery. Is your Torch the same way? I should leave a message to RIM tech support.

The backlight is off on mine when the slider is closed.

My keyboard definitly goes off when closed. Must be a defect.

are you sure you're seeing the backlight from the keyboard..
and not a residual light from the send, end, menu and back buttons?

I noticed mine was on one evening as well. I don't recall the circumstances leading up to it regarding what I was doing with it but I noticed it was on. It was definately the keys being lit up. I haven't been able to reproduce it though either so I'm not concerned about it.
