CrackBerry is Under New Ownership and Relaunching in 2022 Beyond BlackBerry - Read All About It!
- I seem to ask this question for every new BB that comes out, but... can anyone verify if the 9800 on AT&T has Japanese input out of the box, or if the latest firmware has the option to install it? I had a heck of a time getting Japanese IME working on my 9000 (ended up downgrading to an older Telstra firmware something like a year after I initially started exploring the option).
And actually, it would be nice to find out if Japanese character DISPLAY support even exists for 9800 yet.
Thank you in advance!08-12-10 12:41 AMLike 0 - you have to install a jEastAsia version of the OS. it is more likely than not that that AT&T version will not have this out of the box (they usually just come with Multilanguage). Unfortunately, when AT&T does put up EastAsia versions for download via the BB portal, they usually do not include Romaji input (but Japanese fonts will work). You will have to find a version of the OS that is specifically "jEastAsia" or "jAllLang", note the "j". That is key. Without it, there will be NO input options.
This is all true for OS 5.0, but I'm assuming 6.0 will be the same case.08-12-10 12:47 AMLike 0 - Great information to have. Thanks! Hopefully the Torch will become available in an Asian territory soon with the "j" OS version.08-12-10 03:00 AMLike 0

contains those .cod files which are related to Japanese language.
Perhaps it would be possible for us to transplant CJK.alx and necessary .cod files (Japanese font among others) from an OS 5 package to display Japanese on 9800 Torch screen. Nevertheless, we will NOT be able to activate the Japanese Romaji Input option with either of the .sfi files quoted above.08-26-10 12:05 AMLike 0 - Dear dLo GSR,
Meanwhile, the leaked OS 6 package for 9670 Oxford (Clamshell) (9670_6.0.0.180.exe) contains CJK.alx and Japanese fonts, which may be of some use to those who would like to read Japanese on 9800 Torch.

</application>08-27-10 04:06 AMLike 0 - Thanks, yhamaie! I decided to take the risk and try hacking in CJK support on my 9800. Thanks to your observations, I transplanted some files from the leaked 6.0.0.135 package into my install of the leaked 6.0.0.161 package. One additional file that I needed to copy was net_rim_font_global_type.cod, although that could've easily been inferred by looking at your snippet from the CJK.alx file. In addition to Japanese display support, I installed Korean display and input support (which took a bit more inspecting to copy the right files). Everything works perfectly!
Still no Japanese input support, but this gets me halfway there, and I can finally read messages and websites in Japanese.
Thanks!08-29-10 03:07 AMLike 0 - 9800AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel267_PL6.4.0.59_A6.0.0.135 .exe
This offers the ability to read Japanese but not write. Romaji input would require 9800jAllLang*. That j is what separates romaji input from just readable characters on webpages and system language. This applies to all Blackberries of all varieties (as far as I've ever seen... after years of never getting a straight answer from anyone at BB) :\09-01-10 07:26 PMLike 0 - .135 fixed the tinny sound issue???
BTW, RIM is effing slow on this. I am desperately waiting for East Asian lang pack.
WTF? Why RIM is so inefficient on meeting the users' needs.
Sigh.
If I don't get the Asian Lang pack in 30 days I am gonna return Torch though I love it.09-01-10 07:41 PMLike 0 - 9800AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel267_PL6.4.0.59_A6.0.0.135 .exe
