having owned almost every BB at one point or another, and reading this blog for years, I have to say this Torch is getting a bad Rep.

I am thinking about dropping my iP4 to go back to BB next week, and I am a little scared I will be disappointed.

For all you power BB users, should I go back to my 9700 or jump in on the Torch?

I am mostly concerned on build quality.

Personally I think the Torch is fine, I think there are a lot of users who are not.

The phone has a waranty. If you have a problem they fix it. If you don't like it in 30 days take it back.

I am usually the person who gets the bad device or product. My Torch is fine. When the 9000 came out people said the same type of things on this board. Mine was fine and still is fine after almost two years of abuse.

There are some people with legitimate problems I'm sure. There are also a lot of trolls and anal people along with others who simply don't take the time to learn about the phone. Some people have "problems" and are pointed to a solution or shown they are simply not familiar with the phone and instead of admiting their error, they blame the phone and take it back and post a dramatic, "I finally took the Torch back" post.

If you feel you need or want the features the Torch offers, then buy it. If you don't need or want what the Torch has to offer, don't. If you want a touchscreen, a larger screen but still want a physical keyboard the Torch is for you. If you don't need those things, don't care about a larger screen, go for the 9700, it's a great phone.

There are many non-users of the Torch that like to bash it - I for one love the device and yes, I had to do a swap. But that's no big deal for me and got a sweeter deal in the end. I would tell you to go pick one up and try it out - after all, you do have the thirty day window. I started using a BB with the 8800 and went forward from there. Each BB I've had had their own pros and cons. I must honestly say I still don't have the Torch mastered as of yet, but it is an awesome device. You'll hear the nay-sayers moan about the processor, screen resolution and whatever else they decide to gripe about....but take it with a grain of salt and try it for yourself. If you don't like it, don't keep it and move on to something you'll enjoy. It's your money and your phone.

And just wait until the 9780 drops and all the haters start bashing that one......

    Best of luck!

it's a horrible phone, it's well documented, it keeps dropping calls... oh wait....

I'm pretty sure if you went into an android fan forum or a palm forum, you'll see a few unhappy people asking or even complaining about certain things about the phone... if you can, go grab one and see what you think. i'd admit from looking at this particular forum, certain things look worse than they should but overall its not a defect that ruins the overall experience like reception. I'm not sure of contracts with at&t but where I'm from the phone is covered for as long as the contract you have and that covers phone problems and add to that any insurance you include.

Some users on here need to harden up and need to stop reading too much into it. oh crap my phone wobbled a micrometre!%#@#%!

Think there has been a lot of negativity here about the torch and it could put people off like yourself. I live in the UK and we will getting the torch at the end of the month.I have wanted to get one since launch but figured it was best to wait until the software got updated, (which is currently up to .225) and the posts are now confirming that it is a completely different phone. Thats what happens sometimes if you are an early adopter. If you want touch screen, you gotta go with the torch, however, if dont, why dont you get the 9780, which is the updated 9700 with better camera, memory and OS6. I would not get the 9700 now seeing as the update should be arriving early october i think.

It's a good phone. Build quality is questionable IMO but other than that it's not bad. You should certainly upgrade to the leaked .225 OS though.

Good advice.....do this as it will fix some bugs from the .141 and .214 OS updates.

What's wrong with the build quality? It's as good or better in build quality than any BB I've ever owned. It seems that even fans have to find a way of bashing this phone. It's an excellent Blackberry. It's the best I've used.

There should be a forum dedicated to those asking to be convinced to buy/come back to a Torch.

If you want one get one, if you don't don't. As someone had written in an earlier thread, do we also need to convince you to eat dinner too?

Nothing to you personal OP because you're not the only who posted about this before...but read whats good and bad about the Torch here and then decide for yourself.

if the OP has doubt.. then i strongly suggest not to get the phone..
get the one that you feel more comfortable with... depending on where you base your comfort level..
i think the OP's current phone which is the iphone 4 ( Best phone in the World!) is comfortable enough for him/her..
as for the rest of us.. we love our Torch.

Interesting. The OP is on the fence with the Torch based on a few negative reviews they've seen online but currently has a phone that got national media attention for being deemed "Not Recommended" by Consumer Reports.

I haven't updated this list in a few weeks - but this should make you feel better...not to mention ALL of these were BEFORE .214 and .225 OS leaks appeared and made the Torch significantly better!

    my feelings exactly.
that's why from my previous post.. i really discourage getting the Torch for the OP.
it seems he/she has made his/her decision already.
that's why i really recommend the iphone 4 for Him/her.. since he/she has it already..
why go the trouble of getting another device?

And the title is just as interesting. The OP is "scared". I wonder which scenario is more "scary". A few online reviews or national media attention. Or maybe we are living in "reverse world" ;-)

The only way to know for sure is to chug on over to an AT&T store and test one for yourself. Take a long time and test everything. There are enough threads on testing checklists. Nothing beats first-hand experience.

When I was getting my Torch, the ATT rep said he used it for a week and liked it a lot. I asked what he left it for and he said his iphone4. I completely understand, you like what you like, but he did tell me out of all the ATT phones the blackberries are always the more reliable and have been forever. I love my torch and have had no problems whatsoever! Definitely go to the store and test it out, that's the only way to figure out what to do.

This phone is great. I dont care what anyone thinks. It's my opinion and I'm going to stick to it. I played with this phone a lot in the store before it came out(it was on display, obviously) and i fell in love with it and seriously had to have it. My other options were EVO, iPhone, Droid X, or Captivate. But I chose this. I love how classy the phone looks and just the whole interface of it. Sure it doesn't have the highest specs or the most apps available but hey, its a PHONE! I use it to make calls primarily but i also like having something to text, facebook, internet. I've recently found my new addiction.. BBM... its awesome! Give it a spin! What have you got to lose? You have a 30 day test drive.

I must say the overall Torch package is great. I think it's the best looking phone out there. True, I have a slight wiggle that I've obsessed about (and now fixed to my satisfaction), but I'd be satisfied even if the wiggle stayed (I didn't know it was a problem till I visited this forum)!
