Not really sure why you need specifics. Purchased the phone, didn't like it, and returned it. What makes you think that you deserve an explanation?
True statement. Its obvious the OP wants a product that works 100% out the box with no tweaking needed. So the next generation should be 100% out the box, right? How about a 4th generation device? Should be perfect! IPhone 4! Still has dropped calls. These folks are just trying to help but some people will never be satisfied.

Nah, it's not dinner time yet...and mom had to go help the other Foster Children, but thanks for correcting me and putting me in my place. Midget porn...hmmmm...I think I should broaden my horizons. Thanks for the tip! It always helps to learn from a real pro.

This was a really very very simple statement I made about the fact that, for ME...the torch didn't live up to my expectations. Too much stuff going on. It seemed as if every time I took the device out to use it, settings would have changed somehow. And what of the OTHER 99.72596% of the users out there who DON'T subscribe to "crackberry" (you mean not everybody has time to deal with all the tweaks and new operating systems that come out every so often???)? Why CAN'T an "ordinary" user rely on a device right out of the box? Why should "advanced" users like you gurus have to scour the globe to find the latest and greatest fixes? Why shouldn't this be something that RIM sends AUTOMATICALLY to EVERY single blackberry as part of their continuing and ongoing commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction?

That's sort of my point. From my perspective, the torch was rushed out to market. The rush was MUCH needed, I agree, because the tour (9700) was too small and they were losing ground in a big way to other devices. But...this is 2010...technology is not exactly in its infant stage.

And I don't liken this to an iPhone situation with the next best release that is still flawed. I liken this more to the storm...which was a brand new platform that was not (in my view) well thought out, although the principles were sound. I think that a next generation will be leaps and bounds better (AGREED - NOT PERFECT, but BETTER) than the current release.

There are bugs and tweaks and fixes for every electronic gadget, I suppose, and it takes customer feedback after use by critical customers in the real world to figure out what is the way to proceed. In the case of the torch, it seems like they just threw EVERYTHING they could into a pot and hoped it would satisfy everyone in order to compete with the other devices coming out from other manufacturers.

Personally...I'm sticking with the blackberry format, and remain hopeful that the next generation of the torch fixes what I perceive as pitfalls of the current release. I guess that means I first have to invest in some new reading glasses so I can see the screen on the bold.

Some of you posters sure are tough!! Sorry about the deficiencies in your anatomy...

I just don't understand how people gripe about the processor - let's see, it's used in the 9000, 9630, 9650, 9700, and now the 9800. Did I miss any?
Haha! Isn't that enough to gripe about? Oh, you meant that in a positive way. My bad!
lmao i was thinking the same thing.

technology is about ADVANCEMENT, not rehashing the same thing over and over. RIM failed on a huge oportunity to wow consumers with a powerful device to rank with the Iphones and androids of today. Instead they came up with the same hardware they have been using for a few years now. The screen resolution is far below that of the average consumer phones out there. Most of the tech community was dissappointed in it as they should be.

In the "real" world who is going to actually try this stuff? 99.9% of consumers will try the phone and either love it or hate it. Maybe 0.1% will try a leaked OS.

    Did you really try?

Did you update to .214 or .225 to see the speed improvements?

Did you play with touchscreen sensitivity settings?

Did you try a locking app?

I offered solutions to all your problems and you offered rhetoric and metaphors.

I think you either didn't try and gave up or you never even had the phone and just wanted to make a negative post. Either way, it doesn't sound like you want the Torch to be as good as many of us think it is.

Technical advancement also applies to software. For RIM to be able use "old" hardware and make it better and more efficient by simply recoding is "wow". Bravo RIM.

OS6 didnt really wow me either though, where are the widgets and other nice little enhancements that we were told OS 6 would have. Its smoother and better than OS 5 but not be much. The browser is an upgrade but still is lacking also.

I agree 100% with you (well..maybe your %'s are off a bit but that's beside the point). However, of the 99.9% of people who are not going to try any fixes and will either love it or hate it as is, this community will NEVER see their post or hear their complaint. Why? Because they obviously don't know about this site, and/or care about it. Therefore those who DO post here, and still decide to cry over bugs or problems that are usually easy remedies, are just trolling and/or trying to project negative energy to everyone else.

Bottom line is, if you tried the phone and didn't like it. Fine. That's why we have choice. But there are people who like to continually voice complaint (not saying the OP is an offender) and drum up negative comments, and try to project their opinions on others, cuz they obviously have nothing better to do.

First, he wasn't responding to you with those insults - it was for one of the loser trolls who has nothing better to do with his life than to anger people and get attention. He knows who he is.

Secondly, you seem to ignore anything that might help you. So I stick by my last post - you are not here with any good intentions - you just want to complain and whine. You're here on CrackBerry and have access to wealth of information and many people willing to help and yet you want your phone to work perfect out of the box - something that pretty much doesn't exist with smartphones or any other high tech.

A simple install of BerrySlider/Storm Slider or Patternlock or other similar app would have kept your phone from changing settings in your pocket. Yes RIM made the unlock/lock key too easy to press but guess what: it is what it is and you can either fix it yourself and enjoy your phone or you can cry about it and go back to your old old phone while complaining that your new phone was too old. It's obvious what you chose and you should have expected - though you may have desired - the response you're getting.

In the "real" world who is going to actually try this stuff? 99.9% of consumers will try the phone and either love it or hate it. Maybe 0.1% will try a leaked OS.
Like the above response by Rickroller, I agree with you but if you come here and find this wealth of information and refuse to use it out of ignorance or some other motivation, you do not get that "pass".

Yep. In the end, technical advancement is in the eye of the beholder. OS6 and the browser, for me, are very impressive.

After reading all of this I am still unsure how the OP would have gone out and gotten a Torch in the first place, since he/she obviously has access to the technicals specs of the phone beforehand. And with regards to the comparisons to the Bold 9000, I dont see how one could say that this device performs slower, even with the latest OS5 leak on the 9000. My 9000, while I loved it for everything it was, was in no way snappier or capable of running more apps than my Torch. If he had said he was falling back to another platform for the processing speed it would have seemed much more plausible, but the Bold 9000?

Anyway, good luck to the OP.

And you can see better on the 9700 screen? I have the "long arm disease" as well. I used the 9800 for a short while then returned it for issues. Went back to my 9700 for about a week - I saw (pun intended) the difference!

    Best of luck to you.
I also find the screen on the 9700 too small. There are things that one may not like about the Torch but in terms of usability it is the best BlackBerry to date.

And those are all running OS 4.X and 5.0. 6.0 is bigger and uses more resources which is why the 9780 and 9570, "refresh" devices, are coming out. 9630 and 50 have a different processor, with lower MHz, but its a total Qualcomm chipset, I think the 50 even has a dedicated GPU. The nature of the beast with newer/bigger OS's. Sure you can run XP on a Pentium 1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM, but you'll be punching yourself in the nuts if you try to use it. This analogy is a little extreme, but they could have went with a slightly faster CPU (maybe 800Mhz or so and maybe more memory). I have played with a torch for a few minutes and they do seem OK. Waiting to see if Sprint gets one soon as I think the Qualcomm chipset may be a little faster.
