I don't know the numbers but RIM is reporting record revenue; up 31% from the same period last year:

I don't think they have released exact numbers, but in the Q2 2011 Earnings call last week, they said: "Since the Torch launched, sell-through run rates have more than tripled in AT&T retail stores and Torch contributed to the best month ever for BlackBerry Smartphones with Best Buy in August. In fact, based on sell-through in the first three weeks after launching AT&T, Torch is the most successful GSM BlackBerry Smartphone launch in RIM's history."

We also know that the Torch is the best selling phone on Amazon since its release.

i hope i don't come across as arrogant with this question..
but what's the relationship between the sales of the Torch and your "liking" the Torch? or simply put the enjoyment of the device.
i came from a long line of apple products... then the iphone 3G and 3GS..
the sales of the iphone didn't help me a bit with my frustrations with the phone before, like the SMS alert, the bluetooth transfer of music from laptop to the iphone.. the email notifications.. etc etc.
even if the iphone sold millions.. i never got the feeling that apple listened to the consumers... "removabl" battery is a good example..
APPLE still went with what they think is right.. and the consumer followed that direction..
so please.. i beg you.. how does the sales of a particular device dictate the enjoyment/disappointment with that product?

Its just to get an idea if people are warming to the phone, or people don't like it. I mean, *** on before I updated to 214 I was seriously considering returning it.

Also, there seem to have been a lot of returns early on and negative feedback.

Don't beat me up, its just my opinion...

Given the thousands that were sold, those returning them and advertising their dislike are a very small fraction of the total. A good bit of the negative feedback was driven by expectations that the Torch would be the iPhone or Droid killer. Some of these early adopters were also namby pambies who are perfectionists and were looking for flaws. In addition, those owners of the Dark Side devices have posted in a 9800 thread and don't even own or have never owned a RIM device. There are some legitimate criticisms that RIM should have gone with a 1 Ghz processor and a faster browser as well as a higher screen resolution. It is up to the individual owners or potential owners to decide if the Torch meets their needs. That is all that should matter and the Trolls need to accept that we are happy with our devices and not try to arrogantly disparage our choices.

    Amen. Good post!

OP, wait till the 9800 is released in it's native land on 3 carries on the same day within the next 10 days.

If there are a lot of returns, it could be due to AT&T offering full refunds within 30 days. They don't do that with all their phones; at least not all the higher-end ones. Remember, you're more likely to hear unsolicited opinions from dissatisfied customers - who will also be more likely to return them - than satisfied ones.

That is absolutely true. In fact, most of the pre-release reviews I'd read seemed to approach it from that same perspective. I think expectations were unreasonably high from non-BB-faithful, while old BB users who have upgraded to the Torch seem to generally be very happy with it.

Totally agree, HomeTownHero. I think this phone is going to sell exceptionally well across all carriers across the country.

if RIM wanted to do a "shock" and "awe" with the blackberry torch
they should have released the device simultaneously here in the US,Canada and Mexico.

See no one on this forum can give any kind of hard or soft numbers on their sales. I just want RIM to succeed due to the hastle freeness of use of their overall device s/w h/w. I have used windows mobile stuff in the past, and that can give you a migraine.

I often see lots of women beating RIM devices into the ground, much longer than the other devices can take it. just go to starbucks and look around.

Interesting that the adverts are just taking off, we must really be early adaptors...

Stocks only partially influence me, especially since RIM has just opened up to other third world countries in the last quarter or so. Did you know that most homes in India don't have the copper even drawn to the home, and the govt. USED to run all the toll booths?

Also, when RIM released the 9800, for 3 weeks all i saw was negative remarks for the most part and flaming against th 9800. And everyone attacking everyone like the WWF battle Royal. Thank god things have settled around here.
