Wow, you filled up a Torch - congrats! Kidding. Pull the battery, and as it reboots hold the back/scape key to boot in safe mode. If successful and you've recently added an app or three, you can delete them from safe mode. Once you reboot it will start normally, hopefully error-free.
If you can't boot into safe mode then reloading the device software is in order.

How to Backup/Restore All Data, Apps & Upgrade OS - ALL DEVICES With PICS!! -- excellent guide if you've never done it.

How do you know it is in safe mode? And how long do you hold the back/esc key as it is rebooting?

Long enough for it to give you a message that it booted into safe mode once it's done loading. Doesn't have to be for the entire booting process, perhaps 30 seconds to a minute should do it if a shorter hold didn't work

No, it's either on or removed.
