berries suffer (or used to suffer) from memory loss, or drain. Basically, the available memory needed to run the unit drops with use, sometimes to the point where the unit can no longer run properly, depending on the number of apps u have installed.
I noticed that since the 9700, this really hasn't been an issue. That being said though--there WILL be times when a batt pull will be necessary. For example if the unit crashes.

I _never_ do battery pulls, not even on my old Bold 9000. You're better off to use QuickPull (or the like) or the "alt-right shift-delete" key combo. Essentially the BB is a mini-computer. The way it was explained to me is that pulling the battery is the equivalent of pushing the power button on your PC right in the middle of a program, then you get that nasty "error" mssg. Whereas QuickPull and the "alt-right shift-del" key-combo actually shuts down your device and then reboots, like shutting your PC down _properly_.
As for the Torch, I only reset the device after I've installed a new app or theme. This ensures that things continue to run smoothly... same as a PC, you do a proper shut-down and reboot when you've installed a new program (or at least you should). I have had no crashes, and haven't even seen the "thinking" clock.
*knock on wood* ;)
I was, for the first two weeks, quickpulling my torch every night because my 9530 needed it. I stopped the last week and haven't needed to once yet.

Not sure I agree with the above statement (post #3) and alt shift delete is a soft reset, which is different then pulling the battery out of your device.
The Torch shouldn't need a reset. The OS is pretty stable and the memory is abundant. As stated above, it was a habit from previous devices to free up memory and correct OS issues.
We can agree to disagree :)
My main source is a Super-Geek... computer programmer and mobile device expert who has owned pretty much every smartphone going since their inception. I trust his advice, opinions, and personal experiences more that anyone else on this planet. And then there's good 'ol Google.
I've read many forum posts and the troubles that people experience with their devices and all the battery pulls that they've had to do over and over and over again (daily, even several times daily), and I can honestly say that I have NEVER had an issue with my devices and have only reset them when installing new apps/themes etc. *Edit: Actually I have had a problem once or twice, but that was user error (installing a theme or application not meant for my device--oops!). Can't blame the device for my own inability to read the device compatibility list!*
However... To Each His Own.
