Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-20-10 09:00 PMLike 0 - I'm sure there are people on this board that know a lot about this, but my friend who is a tech with AT&T said every phone interacts differently with each network and the OS is also very much part of the equation.
So in other words... Your ability to get a strong signal and stay connected without dropping a call is (among other factors) dependent on:
1) Network
2) Phone hardware
3) Phone software
Of course there are many other factors including network traffic and status, etc, but what i notice is that (all other things being equal) the Torch 9800 on AT&T has noticeably more dropped calls than my Pearl 8100, also on AT&T.
I hope they can improve the Torch's ability to stay connected, but if this keeps up, I may have to go to Verizon and buy a Droid phone!10-20-10 10:18 PMLike 0 -
- We moved our corporation from Curves 8330 on Telus' network to Bold 9700 on Rogers network and we lost reception in many of our offices in our building and the phones continually went into SOS mode even in areas of good reception.
We figured it was Roger's tower locations and over selling their capacity. (Which the over selling ended up being a large part of the issue). We had a quick fix by using wifi UMA (but each phone needed a OS upgrade) but at least we got semi stable reception in those offices except the phones often wouldn't jump to UMA mode unless you forced it too and that was too complex for some of our users.
One staff member who always had issues getting reception in his office had a visitor with a Torch 9800 who was also on Roger's plan and he was getting a solid and stable full 5 bars of 3G service. So we decided to replace that one staff member's phone to try it out and the results were replicated. We've since replaced a few more and consistently the Torch has given a solid 5 bars of stable reception in areas where the Bolds have no reception all. Plus the Bolds still often jump into SOS mode (which I'm told is a sign the providers circuits are getting close to their limits), yet we've yet to see a Torch jump to SOS mode.
Our only concern with the Torch is the interface change from a Bold is going to be a big hurdle for a large number of staff. Sometimes bumping the screen while talking on a call and effectively putting calls on mute. Even the track pad is so close to the touch screen one often bumps the touch screen while using the track pad (and some programs require the track pad) and thus you effectively pop up menus or apps you didn't mean too. The complexity definitely will be a complaint if we switched all our users so we are still determining our options.11-26-10 12:12 PMLike 0 - I'm having reception issues with my Torch. Always switching to SOS mode. Do you think this was an issue with the first Torch's released? Would sending it in for warranty repair work?
Thanks
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-16-11 05:59 PMLike 0 - Used tohave excellent quality reception-signal in our home when we switched to AT&T in 2007. Have had 2 Blackberry Torch's since November of 2010. Never had problems until the last month or so. Call ar all jumbled up or even lose calls! I have made several calls and nothing as of yet! Having to use house phone instaed of cell phones. AT&T says they will check towers in area and it's been a month and no fix! I think I'd rather pay the termination of service and just get phones that actually work.07-25-11 09:42 AMLike 0
- I am having the same problem with bad reception/signal; moreover, my Torch frequently looses calls and does not work good in my house when my Curve 2 worked perfect :S
When my roommate got the Torch I thought the problem might be with her service provider, Rogers, but when I got the Torch which upgraded me to the 3G network I noticed the same problem.....grrr...
When I inquired about the signal problem with a Telus representative the lady stated that unfortunately the 3G network is still relatively new and eventuallly there will be more towers put up which will eliminate the problem.
She suggested that I can try and ask the Telus store manager if I can down grade to a phone that uses the older network. :S
Don't get me wrong I LOVE my BB Torch because of what it has to offer, so now I guess I have to decide whether to put up with the signal problem or give up my Torch07-26-11 04:51 PMLike 0
