    Hey all,

I am coming from an AT&T bold 9700 and just got the Torch 9800. One issue I noticed is that the torch seems to have much worse reception than the 9700. For instance, at the gym I used to get ok (not great but servicable) service on the 9700 now I can't sign into gchat because a connection can't be held long enough. Anyone else notice worse reception on the Torch??

i've had a couple dropped calls and radio can't hold onto a 3G signal. stays on the lower edge signal. my roommate has a iphone, so i'll see if he gets 3G here. I had a 8900 curve before, but usually had a great signal.

Having same issue, reception keeps going to EDGE. Had a 9700 next to it which had a full 3G reception.

I have both an iPhone and Torch. I am posting this at the gym as we speak with the iPhone 4 (and we all know the notorious signal issues with that). Yet I am getting decent service on the iPhone (hence me posting this) while crackberry isn't even loading on my torch...

Having similar issues myself. Pearl 8100 I have upstairs worked fine. No dropped calls, full signal while at home, etc.

With the Torch, I see it at 3G, but the signal varies from 1 bar to max bars - all while sitting on the couch!

    Odd.

I haven't had any reception issues all day long - most of the time here at my apartment though - I haven't yet seen it drop from 5 bars in my room - I almost think it's bugged and stuck there! lol

No problems here. Dropped to two bars in the same areas I had signal problems with on the Bold, but signal WAS a problem quite a bit in the early hours, and probably will till tomorrow, mainly because of ATT, and the fact its a "recently activated device"

Do you think it could be network problems? Over the past few days my service has been spotty from home where I normally have 5 full bars of EDGE its gone down to SOS to GSM then back to 5 bars. My wife has had the same issues on her 8900.

well my reception with the 9800 is amazing, I haven't dropped a single call at home yet, Ive made 14 calls so far each 3 to 5 minutes long. Before with all 3 of my iPhones it was a guaranteed drop call by the 10 second mark. My captivate was a bit better than the iphones but still not as good as the 9800 is treating me... so bottom line im thrilled

At least two professional reviews noted poor call quality and signal strength issues. So much for the vaunted BB call quality.

Seeing how at&t worked very closely with RIM on this phone both are to blame here.

first day with the torch and i notice a big difference in signal strength compared to my storm2 i was using.I'm in my living room in the house and barely picking up a signal with the torch and being in the same place with the storm i would have full strength.all in all I'm liking the torch the more i figure it out

MANY more dropped calls than my old 8100.

Signal strength bars drop to 0-1 in many areas and internet sometimes just crawls.

My old 8100 EDGE phone was faster on some links...

Hope they leak another OS that will take care of this...

I hate to say it, but I have the same issue. I never had dropped calls with my 8300 or 8900. With the 9800 it's becoming a problem. I had a 4 dropped calls tonight with one conversation. Last week I had 8 or 9 drops in a single conversation. If it keeps up, I may have to replace the phone.

i'm with Rogers in Canada and I'm having issues too. reliable network not-so-reliable. my 8900 EDGE on Rogers never had signal issues.

gona be VERY disappointed if this ends up being a design issue.

I went from an EDGE-only phone (curve 8310) to the Torch, so I'm not sure the comparison is fair, non-3G to 3G. That said, I get better reception and signal on my Torch vs the old curve. And WIFI on my Torch has been excellent. I'm on AT&T in a city with good coverage.

i hope the next os solves this problem my signal is really bad, so bad i might have to hook my storm2 back up.always had awesome signal with it

I had this issue with my 9700 and thought it was hardware. I got the torch and had the same issues and then got a new SIM. It improved it a lot but I'm noticing I still don't have the amazing signal my 8900 did. I hope they have a software fix for a boost or something. I am in a solid 3G area too
