Application shortcuts?
Hey,
Are there shortcuts in order to jump into a specific application? It is sometimes very cumbersome to open for example the mail application based on the menue you are actually in since some of them are even dynamic like the frequently used apps...
So far I sadly have to admit that I am slower in operating my phone and jumping through menues than I was with my 9000. Do you have any experience in this regard?

You can turn off universal search and use application shortcuts just like with OS5
Thats how I have mine set.
On the Home screen go to options and the top option is either Universal Search or Application Shortcuts.

I am so use to having the application shortcuts as soon as I got the phone I found that option. :)

I've only been using my Torch for about a week. But Shortcuts was one of my first concerns. There are a few interesting options.
First, I have tried to get used to the search function. With just a couple of button presses, you can get the app you're after - almost as useful as the keyboard shortcuts I used on my 9700.
There is an app out there called SixTools that lets you program the volume buttons and the mute key as additional convenience keys. I use messages and calendar too often for them to not be available with a single button press.
There s an app on AppWorld called gesturepad that allows you to associate gestures you define with whatever app you define. So you can draw a squiggly line and have that open the messages app, for example.
Finally, QuickLaunch seems like a very clever app to have on the Torch. I had looked at this app for my 9700, and decided against it, but it does seem very appropriate for the Torch. This one gets assigned to your convenience key, and brings up a popup menu with whatever apps you designate. You then select those apps from this list. So, the idea would be to keep the list small so that you have the apps you need readily. This would be as fast as the normal 2 clicks you'd do on the bold - click 1 to go to the home screen, and click 2 for the keyboard shortcut for the app you wanted to open. Without this app, you'd need to bring up the virtual keyboard, or slide the device open, and then do the two clicks above.
Hope this helps...I'm still deciding which will be best for me. I bought GesturePad, but I think QuickLaunch will be the way for me. And this will still be combined with SixTools so that e-mail and calendar is just one click away at all times... (SixTools is in a free beta period right now...just search this forum...)
Cheers.

I have had QuickLaunch for the last year. It is a must have app in my opinion.
I used it on my 9700, and now on the 9800.
Highly recommended!

Thanks for all your input.

My recommendation goes to QuicKLaunch. In addition to being a great app launcher, it also gives you a tilt lock, screen capture ,d scheduled reboot. Its hard to beat.

In addition to QuickLaunch there is a similar app called ShortCutMe
QuickLaunch is my preference but it's another option.
