How are you guys handling putting a micro-SIM into the 9810?

It's usually easy enough to position the microSIM and get it to work in a full sized slot. I used one on my 9780.

The thing is that the 9810 SIM slot is covered on the top, whereas the 9700 (and the 9780 too?) had a top-open slot (except for the bar in the middle to hold the SIM in.) So I'm afraid if I put my microSIM in, it won't come out.

Starting around the 0:16 mark, you'll see what I mean by the covered SIM slot.

Are you doing anything special to slide the micro SIM card in? Going in at an angle, using a particular brand of adapter, etc.?

nothing special, it fits into the adapter very well and slides right in. But i did put the adapter in first without the sim card, and then it would not come out because the contacts were sticking up higher than the adapter. It took me about half an hour to find a tool to get it out, what a domb move by me

I've had good results putting a micro-SIM into the cut-out hole of a normal SIM, cut with a Noosy SIM cutter, into my 9810. That way the whole assembly is the normal SIM thickness. I've had this combination in and out several times with no damage. Of course you have to make sure that the micro-SIM fits tightly into the outer part and is well aligned so there?s no edges to snag on the contacts as you insert or remove them.

I also had a bad experience with a cheap adaptor with a back on it, which made the assembly too thick and start wedging badly, so I'd avoid that in the Torch.

So i decided to do my own sugery. I watched vedio on crackberry taking apart 9810. I managed to take one contact off the reader they sent me, very small lucky i had all the tools. soldered the contact on the phone and ill be darned it worked, i was so proud of myself now im back in business. i broke the contact on my white 9810 in 2012 when i tried to test an empty adapter to see the fit and its been paper weight since then....had to get the grey 9810 to replace it...

i have also not been lucky with adapters with a sim in them but all that is history now since i moved over to the BB10 devices

How are you guys able to tell that you broke the contacts--by visual confirmation? The slot's so thin and dark, I can't see in there.

yes you can see physical damage, the contacts are copper , gold looking, in my phone there were six contacts and when i broke it i could see only 5. But i new i broke it when it was hard to get out and the sim card was dislodged when i finaly got it out.

once again i now put a piece of scotch tape over the hole on the adapter so when i put the sim to the adapter it sticks in and cannot become dislodged. this has worked great as i have switched the sim many times now. i hope this info helps raino.
