after about 2.5 months of owning it and i am not a heavy user or abuser. i can feel every part of the device is loosening up and the device is generally not as sold as it was when i first bought it or even my 1.5 year old 8900
    • the screen wobbles more then ever when open
    • i had to use the electrical tape trip to make the device solid when closed
    • the front buttons are sticky including the trackpad. I am really not sure why they didnt make it storm 2 like with these buttons
    • the keypad after not being used for a few hours is also sticky
    • my lock button at the top depresses slightly and sometimes sticks
    • the phone creaks when holding it with a grip

i just wonder in a few more months how its going to be
who else has experienced these issues such as the keybord, lock button issues

My phone is perfect. Have you contacted your carrier about possibly getting a replacement?

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a replacement device. I think you have one of the first released ones, but they have made improvements to the wobble etc on the newer ones.

Mexico5... 1.5 months of use. Perfect, except for tiny wobble. No one I know in Canada is having problems.

Return it... Only a moron would put electrical tape on an expensive phone yet not return it during 30 day window.

Got mine on launch day. Had a little wobble that was easily fixed with 2 small pieces of foam weather stripping. Feels solid and has worked flawlessly since I bought it. Wouldn't exchange it for any device on the market today.

I've had 3 and the 3rd is how it should be. I have a theory that refurbs are more solid

Not a lot of posts like this so you got to wonder how the user is treating the device.

I punch my device in the face every morning I wake up and it is working pretty good! Lol It is my second torch, but it is a pretty solid phone.

It sounds like you spilled something on it to make everything stick like that...

I've had my Torch for 1.5 months and have no issues. There is a *slight* wobble in the sliding mechanism, but nothing that bothers me, and it came like that. It didn't get loose over time.

I got mine on release day and have yet to notice ANY sort of wobble or sticky buttons or anything. Performance is just as zippy as day 1 (actually better with OS updates), and I've even dropped it about 3 times by now.

Pretty solid, IMO. Sounds like you just got a bad one.

@ BigTK = 2.5 greater then 30 days so that way of returning the ship has sailed

mine is a mexico 4 build and maybe this is the issue?

if i did beat the phone up or was rough with it why would i need to hide that from you guys, your not the ones who would process my return

i know for a fact nothing was spilled on it because its always around me and never left unoccupied for someone else

maybe ill have to make a run to the return center

Cry me a river. I have had this 9800 since a week after release and I have NONE of the issues people are whining about.

You're not married to the phone. Don't like it, get something else. Simple.

We have a Torch in the office has similar issues. Screen literally rattles when you move the phone. Called AT&T about it and was told that since they have no documentation in their records that the screen wobble is a widespread issue they would view the issue we have as the result of user damage, which would put the device out of warranty. Said that no outward signs of physical damage (scuffs, dings, etc.) were needed for techs to make the distinction and if they did we would be billed full retail for a new device when one was shipped back out.

Must be earlier builds out there of the torch that have those issues, seem to be in the US more.. Was the Torch released there first before being released in Canada? that would explain why there seems to be less of it with the Canadian ones.

thank you.. its more the right side of the screen. this is why i also posted this because why would att just give me a new device if this "has not been an advertised issue".. it sucks and i dont want to get stuck paying retail twice if ATT decides to charge me later on.

yes it was. maybe a month or so earlier.

If you are a longtime ATT customer, they will sometimes pull some strings for you. It works better if you go to your local ATT store. Ask to see the manager and see what happens.

The US had the phone 2 months before Canada. Definitely seems to have been a higher rate of defective phones in the US.

For the OP and the user with one bad one at the office, I'd go to an AT&T store and talk to a manager. Don't take "user damage" for an answer. These are definitely defective phones, so keep speaking to AT&T until you get someone to exchange it. The in-store people tend to replace them easier than over the phone. Plenty of people have gotten free exchanges outside of their 30 days.

I'm on my third torch. The first one had a loose button panel, the second one's screen cracked when I dropped it and had terrible wobble both before and after the fall, and now the one I have now is absolutely perfect. I'm fairly certain it's a refurbished Torch. It has only very slight wobble that wouldn't bother anyone. Try getting a replacement from your AT&T store. They have Torch's that are better than the ones released at launch and any refurbs you'd get are bound to be really solid.

same issue with mine. Mines about a month old, started wobbling pretty badly after 2 weeks of use. I'm already on three layers of electrical tape to solve the wobble issue. Also noticing a squeek from the keyboard area. So far, not impressed with the build quality of the Torch. I had my Bold 9000 for 2 years and it was rock solid!

I'll probably exchange it, but I'm worried the next one will be the same.

The 9000 had notorious squeaky battery door issues. Was pretty widespread too. Moving parts increase the chance of defects like this.
