I've found that on each new device on tmobile in order to receive mms I first have to send one to myself to activate the service. It's odd but it seems to work. Send a photo to yourself.

Everytime I click on the icon for contacts, it pulls up ATT address book. Looks like some kind of service.
    Hello.

I am assuming you used the "switch device" process from your previous BB and BB desktop software to add your contacts to your BB.

Just touch the contacts icon _ it will go through its thing about syncing online. Let it run, then will entually it will display your contacts. and it won't go through that syncing again.

One thing to add: a battery pull usually clears up a lot of issues!

You have to copy the vvm.cod files from a T-Mobile firmware onto the torch. I used BBMCP to do this.

Install the bold 9700 t-mobile firmware onto your PC.

In BBMCP use the add files command and browse to

    c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\{the directory for the 9700 firmware}\Java

and select all the .cod files with "vvm" in the title and load them to the torch. Rebewt and voila.

Very informative post! I'll be back once I have my 9800 in hand and start working the steps.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question... I'm getting my 9800 tomorrow & I will unlock it myself to get it working with T-Mobile (I did the same thing when Bold 9000 first came out & used it on T-Mobile without tweaking anything).

My question is; from what I've read in this thread that you still won't be able to get the phone working even if it's UNLOCKED? Nevermind the 3G connection as that's pretty apparent to me. But the rest of it like, BBM, pre-installed Facebook, Twitter, MMS, SMS, etc. sounds like they may not work? Unless you do the process/es mentioned on here then you'll get everything working (?)

Am I right? I'd appreciate a little explanation on whether it IS necessary for me to follow & do these steps even with an UNLOCKED Torch or can I live without doing so?

    Thanks in advance.

Seems all the problems I had are now gone and everything seems to be working now. Thanks again for all the help. Teamtee--if you buy the 9800 and unlock it on TMobile just follow the steps provided and everything will work..so yes if you do the steps you will get everything working..of course no 3G..

Until tmobile start pushing the require OS6 servicebooks you'll have to follow these steps to get it working.

Your bold worked because tmob were able to push OS5 servicebooks already when you got it.

Thank you, I'll do that. I just got confused (and maybe I am still) because I've been reading some people who bought it (UNLOCKED) or have bought the Torch & unlocked it themselves & everything works. Didn't read them saying anything about tweaking it or so... that's what confused me after I read this thread.

But I will follow the steps & see (crossing my fingers) it wouldn't mess up my phone!

Just downloading DM 5.0. Seems silly but there doesn't seem to be a way to restore files in 6.0 like there was in 5.0, and I used that feature all the time!

I posted this in the UMA thread but I'll post here too.

DM6 does not back up 3rd party certificates, so if you activate UMA make sure to backup your certificates using bbmcp or crackutil just incase the link to the certs goes dead.

universal search for visual voicemail, if it's not there you may have missed a vvm cod file, there are a bunch of them.

If that doesn't work maybe I got lucky.

You could do a device switch from another t-mobile berry that has VVM, that would probably do it but you'd have to re-do the servicebook process again afterwards.
