If they were going to announce the release date, then there would be no need for them to release the latest video. The video was released to buy more time (just like the video they released earlier this year).
the ceo or whatever said they were going to have something exciting in a few weeks. just so happened that the meeting was just a "few" weeks from that article. i'll keep my fingers cross that it wasn't a stupid video.

That's right! An announcement today would be great. It will be a major disappointment if he was talking about that video.

LOL, I can see it now. "RIM shareholders, I stand before you with some great and exciting news. Yesterday, July 12, 2010, RIM released the highest quality, most attractive OS preview video in the history of smartphones. We are confident that this momentous video will only increase the value of your investment in RIM."

I just purchased a Bold 9700 on Thursday July 15th. The slider will officially be released August 15th exactly 30 days after I can return the 9700 for the slider. Note sarcasm.

Yeah, well.....I really screwed up!!!
Thought I'd see what this iPhone buzz was all about. I picked up a 3Gs on craigslist a couple weeks ago. I liked it for a while and, like a freakin MORON...gave my 9700 to my wife.
Now she won't give it back!!!.
So...I either stick with the 3Gs or strap on my 9000 till the 9800 drops.
Funny thing...I was in an Apple store yesterday telling a sales person the iPhone wasn't for me and that I was going back to BB, in part due to the terrible battery life. I showed it to her proudly displaying the BB App World logo the the iPhone home screen. She didn't find much humor in that.
When the Queen visited RIM in Waterloo last week, she was presented with a white 9700 not a 9800. Now you'd figure if the 9800 were actually deliverable the queen would get one. No?

I'm sure HRH has much more on her plate than just sitting around waiting for the 9800 to drop. It would be a major embarrassment to RIM if it put a 9800 in her hands and said, "Its not official yet, and there may be some bugs or whatever."
Who knows...maybe she entered a vault and had her choice of devices. She seems a bit old fashioned so maybe she opted for the traditional blackberry. I bet her device is OS6 ready though.
I just found and ad for a 9780. It looks the same as the 9700. Here's what it says:
"The BlackBerry 9780 sports a premium experience and design, comes with BlackBerry 6.0 OS. Boasting features such as high-speed 3.5G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options.."
