Blackberry touch is SurePress Touch. Even on a hybrid!
- Many of us are excited about the new torch. it finally merges the famous and highly efficient keyboard with a capacitive screen that can be found on many of the popular smart phones that have emerged over the last couple of years.
Many in particular have been waiting (im)patiently for a blackberry with a capacitive screen even though many including a friend that i know love the clickable screen that RIM had included in their storm models. I'm undecided about the SurePress touch screens but i can see the advantages of it especially when typing out a long email.
I absolutely love this new hybrid phone as I'm horrible with typing messages fast enough on a touch only device. I spent a few hours using my friends iphone and I still sucked - maybe i need a week? my friend on the other hand loves it - ahh well!
I really wanted to gauge peoples feelings about the overall concept of the physical design. This isn't an argument about resolution or how fast the processor is but just the physical appearance. What concept would you have found more appealing had RIM asked you to pick. I would have put other in these options but I believe that'll dilute it too much esp if i only really get one or two voting, haha! On that note go ahead and explain your reasons why you hate one or all of these designs.
We all love polls right? here's the run down of the The four options.
Portrait slider and the chosen form factor of the 9800 torch, love it or hate, its here to stay. (which i believe is the better choice of the first two)
Landscape slider - something like the n97 but im not sure how well the blackberry keyboard will translate over a much wider surface - more thumb travel esp if you're thinking 'Epic' proportions.
Blackberry 9000-9700 form factor with a smaller touchscreen. (this was something I've always wanted when i was using my 9000 for work. I would poke at the screen at times when i first got the phone wondering why this screen wasn't touch - the down side, is that if you were to keep this form relative to the Bold 9700 you would undoubtedly have a smaller screen to that of the Torch 9800)
Blackberry touch is SurePress touch - plain and simple. i was almost ready to not include this because i think SurePress on a hybrid is overkill and should be left for the blackberry storm line of phones.
would any of these designs appeal to the mass consumer and more importantly to the blackberry user or are they all bound to fail because its RIM and no one cares anymore? (I care )
It's OS 6, it needs another re-do because it meets us halfway and doesn't go far enough with touch etc etc... let me know how you feel.
Thanks for reading my war and peace novel08-10-10 03:38 AMLike 0 - Well, I meant to vote for portrait slider. My ideal BlackBerry would have been a Storm with a trackpad. Nonetheless, a portrait slider is a great alternative as well. I won't need to flip my phone sideways to use full qwerty whenever I need it (since I primarily use SureType).
With the portrait slider, I feel tempted to somehow disable the accelerometer entirely. The only time I use it on the storm is to use the landscape full qwerty keyboard.08-10-10 05:14 AMLike 0 - I agree, its the only reason why I'd go portrait because that's the standard way of holding the phone (unless your against the 'establishment')
I've been using sliders for a while now and I've disable the accelerometer on my Sony Ericsson main due to when im lying down checking the news. though that's mainly due to the crappy browser :P
I don't think I'll mind it too much.
Storm with a trackpad is a good idea! I never understood people complaining about blackberry having way to many ways to navigate and the trackpad being completely useless.
I know when im editing on the bold using the trackball/trackpad has always been a lot easier than me trying to use my finger to edit a few spelling mistakes on the iphone. maybe im the only one who notices this?08-10-10 04:21 PMLike 0 - Storm with a trackpad is a good idea! Ever used the XBox 360's keyboard addon? I measured that thing and it's about the exact same size as the 9800 is (~4.4") and the key buttons are a perfect size, that would work great and I like the trackpad option, the myTouch 3G Slide is about the perfect example.
