How we can verify what specific CPU the Torch has? If is the same as 9700, is the Marvell PXA930? How we know is clocked at 624 and not closer to 800MHz?

I remember RIM claims this is a newer generation chip. Maybe the PXA935 (clocks ups to 1Ghz)???

I google it but no luck.

Because those are the specs released by RIM. I don't think they would low-ball their specs - Not a good marketing strategy.

I agree but I remember hearing the 9700 overclocked to around 800 mhz.

Forgive me! If that's true that's incredible..Talk about a pleasant surprise!

I don't know for sure but I do remember reading that when it came out. I'm thinking in BGR and somewhere else. I could be wrong. Where are you getting your info from yeedub?

I asked this earlier in another 624 thread but I wouldn't mind know if this is a new revision of the 9700 cpu...

overclocking a cpu on a portable device isn't my kind of thing. the battery life wouldn't be optimised for it and i highly doubt it will bring any noticeable differences to OS 6 - might make for a nice little heater for those chilly days. But im happy for anyone to prove me wrong.

Bold 9700 has Marvell PXA930. The 930 minimum clock is 624MHz with a max of 800MHz.

Overclocking a CPU can also make it unstable and shorten its life. So many people are fixated on the numbers and don't seem to care about the consequences, they just go by the foolish notion that having a higher speed processor is going to make for a faster, smoother, better phone which is definitely not always the case.

It's roughly analogous to judging cars on horsepower alone. The car with 300 HP is faster than than the car with 250 HP, right? Not if the car with 300 HP weighs 5,000 lbs and the one with 250 weighs 2,000 lbs.

So no information on current Torch CPU!
Then, everybody have the 624MHz including AT&T. But no information on RIM website. I remember they told that will be a "New Generation Chip".
