It is 6-7KB every 5-10 minutes with a larger amount every hour. I cannot figure out what is causing this. It is continuous 24/7. I am on the enterprise server through my work for e-mail/calendar/tasks etc. I also have a personal yahoo e-mail account that dumps into my phone.
Can anyone here shed some light on this for me?04-15-11 10:16 AMLike 0 -
- Its your phone checking for updates for email and apps that require it. My guess is you have 2 programs that are requesting updates. One set to 10 minute intervals and the other set to every hour.

Set your permissions for all your 3rd party apps to "Prompt" in the communications section. This will then give you an idea of what apps are doing this when the phone does prompt you for permission to connect. I did this after ngetting an enormous data bill and discovered some apps connecting without my knowledge. Apps that really didn't need to connect every hour or so. I got rid of them.
Also set your personal permissions to prompt and be afraid, very afraid, when you see what apps are after your files, PIM info and other stuff they have no business in.04-15-11 01:27 PMLike 0 - I am having the same problem. It doesn't look like much, but I am seeing about 1 - 2 MB / day that is being siphoning off as chargeable data. That leads to up to 60 MB per month and is a large chunk if you are on a 200 MB plan. I feel like this is a sham on AT&T's behalf with respect to how the data accounting is handled.04-16-11 12:13 AMLike 0
- When AT&T first started offering BB's to the general public they also offered an unlimited data plan(BIS) for 30$ a month. As long as you haven't switched plans(stayed with a BB) then your grandfathered into that plan, least for now. So glad I have an unlimited plan I never have to worry about the amount of data I'm using.04-16-11 06:54 AMLike 0
- I JUST noticed this as well, and called at&t about it. I was basically told that it is "normal" for smartphones, it is "doing updates" but she could not tell me any additional details around what kind of "updates" were being performed. Consider me pissed. With all the scrutiny around the iPad and iPhone location data being sent out, this is a big f'ng deal to me. I turned off Google Maps and turned off my GPS... we shall see if that makes a change.
One of the first things the rep said to me was "you're on an unlimited plan, you're fine".... I was like, uhh, i'm not SENDING DATA around the clock every 10 minutes, this is NOT ok.
The other key thing I got out of that conversation was ...
1) if you have a smart phone with at&t, a data plan is required ("for this reason")
2) you (the user) have NO SAY in what data is sent, or when
3) thank you for your business, have a nice day.
