I just tested it against by Bold 9000 and a 9700
- Full 3G service at my AT&T store
Cleared all the cahces and rebooted all phones
I only used 3G for this test
My Bold 9000 loaded engadget and crackberry faster than the 9800. Infact the 9800 just quit loading engadget half way through (maybe it is mad at them for the bad review!!!)
People complain about all the numbers but the screen was good, sure there are clearer but I never sat there and said hey wait a minute the screen isn't crisp.
Scrolling on the touch screen is fine on webpages as long as you go slow or just at steady speeds, when I went faster like most people will do once they start using the device more, yes it was jittery when you scrolled up and down the pages.
Using a Bold 9000 for 2 years I guess I am not use to a slider. It all worked fine but every time I went to open the slide I would hit the track pad or one of the 4 buttons on the bottom. I guess that is something that I would figure out if I had one.
Keyboard typed ok and I didn't hit the bottom of the slide when typing on the top rows. It was actually harder to hit the bottom row of keys. You really don't notice the keypad is recessed until you go to hit one of the bottom keys on the keypad.
I liked being able to access phone options and notifications form the main screen.
When you are using the track pad and browsing through the apps and icons on the phone you can only scroll up and down, you can't scroll left and right to get to the other pages. Either I was stupid and couldn't figure it out or you can't. I would load them all on the main screen if I had one to get around that.
The browser will only pull up mobile sites if you go to a place that has mobile and full sites. Some mobile sites have a button to that directs you to the full site but some do not and that is not good. My 9000 lets me change the browser identification so I can pull up the full sites when I want them and mobile when I want them.
With a tired kid and angry wife that is all I had time to look at. Actually those were the features I was curious about.
I consider myself pretty well versed in BBs and a crackberry addict so it is not like I don't know what to look for.
ps I also don't like the new landscape dock that has the male end of the usb sticking up. I go to sleep after my wife and I like being able to just drop my 9000 in the charger I would not like to have to make sure I line up the usb connection in the dark.
Speakers will do but not 9000 speakers.
I kept getting confused about using the keyboard or touchscreen, guess cause it was all new.
They need to make a 9000 size phone with more ram, faster processor and BB608-07-10 06:56 PMLike 0 - When you are using the track pad and browsing through the apps and icons on the phone you can only scroll up and down, you can't scroll left and right to get to the other pages. If you move up to the page header (i.e. All, Favorites, Recent... etc), then you can swipe on trackpad left or right to change pages.
I agree. Bold 9000's speakers are effing awesome, seriously!08-08-10 12:49 AMLike 0 - i never thought about the opening part. on sliders i've usually used the screen to push up on it... will i accidentally be opening up files by pressing the trackpad or by pressing on the screen when opening up the slider.
I will have to wait and see when i get my hands on it because I really want to start using that blackberry browser. (though flash can't come soon enough!)
the speakers aren't as good? a little bit disappointed to hear that but otherwise the hybrid form factor makes up for it.
yeh you can't use the trackpad to go to favourites / downloads/ media pages. you have to go to the top bar on that menu and move across. I think its good they limited to that. the trackpad can be a little tricky at first esp when navigating thru the menus at a faster speed.08-08-10 01:22 AMLike 0 -
Never heard of any phone (including other BBs) having speaker as good as Bold's......
I remember in Engadget's review they said Torch's speaker is crispy and clear.
It's not as good as Bold's but it's still pretty good I think.08-08-10 02:48 AMLike 0 -

- I don't care if you believe it or not. If you notice I have almost 400 posts so I am not a flamer. I check this site 3 times a day and prefer my BB9000 to any other phone.
The so called BB expert in my local AT&T store was standing there to verify it. I tried it twice. Cleared the caches and rebooted both phones twice and the 9800 still wouldn't load engadget.
I read the same reviews you probably did last month about how the BB6 browser beat android and iphone in some benchmark test. They said it beat them by a lot. I don't know what test they used but I did it in real life with a full 3G signal.
Surprised I had no comments about the browser identification thing. It was a bummer too.
I am still gonna get one this week and see how it is for 30 days, if it doesn't cut it then I will go back to my 9000 instead of another platform.08-08-10 11:15 AMLike 0 - Just because some of us post often doesn't make us flamers. Check the comparison that I posted in another thread. I had a 9000 and I would/am going to leap at the chance to get a Torch. One fact is inescapable. It is unlikely that the 9000 will ever see the OS 6 and form factors are going smaller.08-08-10 11:21 AMLike 0

- Would have been nice if the 9800 had a 800MHz clock instead, still shouldn't be bad on battery but would make up for the pinch-zoom lag and such.
I have some interest in the Bold 9780 because I like its keyboard and it has the memory bumped up which is good for the future of OS 6, I'd already be using a 9650 but its bands aren't compatible with my carrier. My concern is that the 9780 likely will also have the same CPU and will be getting OS 6, and it might lag.
Right now the 9700 is the best BB phone I know there is considering performance and feel, sometimes I want to steal my sister's 9700, I know she won't take a trade on my 8530.
Speaking of browsers, Opera mini is my choice on BB phones, it loads significantly faster than BB's browser so I've been wondering how OS 6 will handle Opera mini, I also use Opera mini on my Android and iPod Touch and on those it isn't as fast as Google's and Safari's browsers, just on BB is where it shines.08-08-10 11:43 AMLike 0 - Would have been nice if the 9800 had a 800MHz clock instead, still shouldn't be bad on battery but would make up for the pinch-zoom lag and such.

If you don't, do so...speeds things right up....least it did for me and I was a big fan of Bolt and Opera5, but native loads faster than both and more stable....just miss tabs, lol!
Also it will prmpt you for pages that need to run Java, but indeed it will slow to a crawl...
