    I apologize in advance if this is in lots of other forums, I've done a couple of searches and couldn't find an answer.

    I received my Torch as a gift (from a senior RIM employee)....is there a way to tell if is unlocked?

    How do I know my phone is locked?

    1. Go to Options > Advanced> Sim Card
    2. Type MEPD and a screen will appear.
    3. If securities are "Active", then it is locked.

    Actually went to Options>Advanced>Sim Card

    It says at the top "SIM Card: Security Disabled"

    I didn't have to type "MPED"

    I believe the typing of "MPED" refers to older berries? I know on my current phone(8900) i had to type in the "MPED" to see the sim capabilities.

    OK VERY weird then....I just looked at my Company provided Torch, purchased on our corporate account with Bell through a Bell store.
    Why would mine also say Security Disabled? I am the only user of this phone and know I have never had it unlocked.

    also, it's in Options>Device>Advanced...>Sim Card ...just in case anyone new reads this and has trouble finding it.

    When in that screen if you hold left shift and type MEPD, the field will expand, and you should see SIM Disabled, Network Disabled, Network Subset Disabled, Service Provider Disabled, Corporate Disabled.
