Tomorrow I should be receiving my new wall charger and my new car charger for my Torch.
I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on properly charging the phone. As of right now, I usually always leave it on while I charge it, I don't know if that's good or bad.
Most of the time too, I have it charging via USB to my computer.
Should I always have it plugged into the car charger while I'm driving? How long should I have it charging? Should it be on or off?
Answering any of those questions would be a big help.
I don't think it really matters if your phone if off or on during charging, but my preference (through my silly logic of, why continue to use energy when you're trying to charge energy) is to turn it off while charging.
I'm guessing some prefer to leave it on, in case a call comes in, etc. I usually charge mine during the night.
I prefer to turn mine off and put it the OEM charging pod at night and in the office, it is on in the OEM charging cradle. In the car, it is on as well. There is no right or wrong way.
No need to worry about when or how to charge the Li Ion batteries. Charge whenever you want, however long or short you want. Won't affect it. No need to turn it off while charging...I never leave mine off for anything.
From my understanding, when you first get the phone, charge it til it's full power, and let it DIE completely.
Do that about once a month, it's called a power cycle and ensures all the cell get used.
No, this is false. That was necessary with old NiMH or NiCad batteries. It is no longer necessary with Lithium Ion batteries. This is an old idea that needs to be put out to pasture.

My mistake, that is with Ni-MH batteries.
THIS is for Li-Ion
Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
don't worry about charging in the car unless you're running low or know you are gonna need another 10% for wherever you are going. an overnight charge from the wall of comp will last you all day on above average to heavy use.
I'm incredibly data-heavy (always on ebay.com, crackberry, twitter, and Slacker Radio), and i can go from 6:30am to 10pm with a few percent to spare (according to BerryMeter).
Li-ion batteries last the longest if they are topped off frequently. I drop my BB in a charging pod while I am at my desk to top off the battery. I also charge it all night in a charging pod when I go to bed each night.
