AT&T is not coming out with its LTE service until next year. The 9800 should come out in Q3 of this year. I don't know why RIM would release a phone whose full capabilities could not be used for another year. So I would very much doubt the 9800 will be LTE.

Here we go again....obsolete before being released.

Seriously now, does R&D even bother to talk to strategic planning & Marketing? Surely someone has to have a clue?

I have no doubt RIM has LTE/4G phones in their R&D pipeline. Given the market, though, they can't just rely this year on phones from the last two years and put nothing new out this year. LTE is ultimately only one feature among many, so RIM is probably doing the right thing by putting out new phones that are much improved in other ways over their earlier phones, even if those new phones aren't "LTE-ready."

But who knows, maybe they will be (although, as I said, I doubt it).
