Any one heard anything new on the BB slider? The last I heard was a touch screen with a slide out qwerty keyboard.

A slider BB? Seems to be logical. RIM has come out with every other type of smartphone device. It doesn't seem to be something that I would get excited about though. Sliders are cumbersome. If it slides from the bottom of the device you are looking at a very cramped keyboard. If it is a side slider, your typing will be accurate, but a lot slower. Whatever floats your boat, but I will continue to look for BBs with a physical keyboard on the front. I'm more concerned about RIM releasing a device that has a keyboard that is as spacious as the Bold. A lot of the phones that are being released seem to be smaller - no good for me.

Not a smart move on behalf of RIM.
Its so simple, RIM just needs to give
customers exactly what they want in a
blackberry, not what RIM thinks
customers will want.

That's such a silly thing to say.
Clearly not every customer wants the same thing from their phone.
It's not simple at all. Trying to create a new device that your current
3 million clients like & your potential customers want. Think about it.

Just segment the market, find what each
Individual group want and need in a product, and
choose a target market to focus your marketing
strategy around. Give target market what they want!
Not each individual segment what they want.

If you don't give customers what they want
at a price they are willing to spend they won't buy.

RIM marketing strategy

Target market
Business users have a need for it and can afford it.

Product
Design a product loaded with features that business
users want and need. Business users need the
ultimate messaging device that is secure and reliable,
increases the speed of productivity, so give then a
Qwuerty keypad, 3g, wifi, documents to go,
powepoint, and excel.
They want multimedia and gaming

Price
Set it high enough because business users
would pay more for a product if it increases
productivity. Increased productivity means
more work done in less time and more profit
for business users.

Promotion
Just blend everything, advertising, product,
price, place, branding, together attractively
for business users.

Place
Sell the product exclusively, selectively, or intensively.
Sell them intensivley where it sells best... everywhere.


Conclusion
RIM Lost focus of who their target market,
business user, is and done something out of character.
Money spent on a product design to
attract a new market, in techies who just want the
latest gadgets, is an epic failure.
RIM could easily refocus on business users, spent
that money on adding more product value.
How about a better browser on the blackberry!

Not all posts count towards your total...post something in the 'off topic discussion' forum and they don't tally; most of those posts are not aimed at the BB world so CBerry won't care about them. More important than number of posts is quality of posts; "LOL oh yeah that's me too...LMAO!" posts, even in a forum segment that will tally your count are meaningless and don't bring any value to these forums. The hard core CBerrians know who brings value and who just jibber-jabbers.
For people like me with big fingers a landscape slider with Bold's functionity would be awesome.

I think I would appreciate a slider BB if:

A) Still allowed landscape/portrait typing on touchscreen

B) Still had full functionality of accelerometer
(Most sliders like this, while change depending on keyboard open/close or limit accelerometer functionality)

C) Kept true to a good size i.e thickness of an Iphone, (lol)

Basically, the keyboard being an "option"

I'm just trying to think and imagine what a BB slider would look like ... am I the only one who thinks it would be awkward? I'm not too sure the slider would be the best thing .. it could just be another sell out like the storm, people just getting it because it's something RIM hasn't done before and is still imperfect, but that's just me.. I would definitely be interested in a widescreen BlackBerry .. or the Magnum.. but then again, I'm open to opinions

I for one, would be very interested in a slider.

Current bar QWERTYs are so cramped. I am currently typing with my thumbnails. A larger keyboard would actually speed my typing.

And as a PDA user in Palm's heyday, I am no stranger to touchscreens. But a full-size screen (a la iPhone or Wing) would be the only option. The pads of my thumbs practically cover my 8900 screen.

So overall unless it had shoddy Pre-like construction, I would be all over a Blackberry slider. After all, avoiding WinMo was the only thing that kept me from getting one of the HTC sliders

I would have to say from my experience my girlfriend has a touch pro on uscc and it is very good and is fast no lag now don't get me wrong im blackberry all the way but everyone acts like windows mobile is sorry and I got to say its not that bad never crashes starts up way faster then my 8330 but to be honest its a good phone just can't compare with blackberry getting email but I would love to see slider bb
