My screen just lit up and now next to where my carrier is and signal strength is, The BB emblem is showing does this mean am due an update on software? Or does this mean the BB signal is in full swing?

means you're connected to BIS

If you are on wifi, it will also show near the wif signal meter to confirm BIS is going through wifi. In other words, it is there to indicate you have BIS and which radio it is using for BIS data, wifi or cellular.

BIS=Blackberry Internet Service means you are connected to blackberrys network to receive your internet emails, app world, bbm and browsing

yeah, means that u can use the internet on ur phone without wifi
