the old trackball..I SURE DO!!! I wish the Torch had one. Unfortunately, I also wish the Torch's keyboard was a little thicker...it seems almost like an afterthought... still trying it out though. I've only had it for 5 days or so.
I don't miss it at all!! The one on my Curve 8310 always got stuck and I had to replace it twice and I took extremely good care of my phone. I do wish the keyboard was thicker though but like xandermac said it's the nature of the formfactor,

Miss it? Not really, it some cases it provided a little more precision, and who can forget the ability to change the color or the track ball with a sharpie? But having it constantly getting gummed up, or heaven forbid you used it after eating potato chips, the grease would make it unusable for min-hours.
so nope don't miss it a bit. and yes wish the keyboard was thicker or the keys less recessed
i dont know if i should laugh or cry when i saw this post. just sold my 9700 as i will be grabbing the 9800 on the 30th so in the meantime i am using my 8310 and the damn track ball wont scroll down!!! F me

The trackball on my 9000, 8310, and 8110 would lock up at the worst possible time. I remember having to make a quick call and pulling hand sanitizer and a tissue out of my bag to make it scroll around properly. Dear gawd...never again.
I have an 8220, 8320 and the 9000 (which I use quite a lot to be honest) and I've found a good soaking in bleach keeps the trackball nice and workie. I also have a pack of 10 replacements tho, I suppose that should be an indication of just how bad that trackball idea really was!
Still. now the android users get to deal with them. The G1 and the Nexus both have the exact same trackball hardware.
No! hair or dust on trackball = no fun, I did think the trackball was a neat concept when it first came out but when trackpads came along it woke me up.
When I first touched the ruby red track pad of the Torch - all remorse of abandonning the 8310 went straight out the window! Love the combination of track pad and touch screen. There was many a time when something caught under that track ball and I could only scroll up or scroll down.

Sure it's not as slick and it's subject to more problems...
...but my 9000 trackball never had a single issue in the nearly two years I used it. It also offered more precision than the trackpad - especially in humid conditions.
No way! The trackpad is way better! BTW, you will get used to the thinner keyboard. Was my 9000's better? Yes. Do I notice much of a difference a month later? No.
