Hoping i could get some help or advice.
Have a Torch 9800 that works fine when closed but when i slide it open the screen turns to what looks like a multi-colored snow and makes using the keyboard or screen impossible .It clears up after a minute or two but does sometimes leave a red tint on the icons.Other times it returns to normal,at least while closed.
I'm assuming it's the screen but wonder if it could be something else and if it is worth the price or effort to repair.
Eligible to upgrade at my carrier but was just going to re-purpose my mom's old phone since i usu always have wifi and don't want to waste money on a data plan.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!

You got a hardware issue there, but I don't think it's the screen, I would bet on the connectors that tie both parts being lose thus creating all sorts of issues. If you're due an upgrade, I suggest going for a new phone. A Z10 or a Z30 would be very good choices!

PS: See that's why thread titles are important. Did you mean to say you have 9800 screen problems or that you have problems with your 9800's screen?

Sorry if the title caused confusion. Wasn't really sure exactly how to describe it. I'm relatively new to using the phone and not exactly familiar with the tech specs or jargon.

Anyway i gathered it was a hardware issue just didn't know precisely what was causing it. I wiped it and re-installed the os after i made this thread just to make sure it wasn't the software and it continued the same behavior.
Searching for solutions to problems on the net w/out using the right key words can be frustrating.By your answer and some google, i assume you mean the flex cable.

Whether i get a new phone or not,i'll probably still take a crack at repairing it so if you have any advice or links that might help i'd appreciate it.

I guess the best way to go about this is getting in touch with BlackBerry and finding out where you can get it fixed.

Your other options are: a) do it yourself getting parts from cnn.cn or truesupplier.com; b) find a repair shop that can do BlackBerry.

I'd still go to the source on this one. And here are the numbers for that!

While i appreciate the corporate links,I was looking for something that would aid me in doing it myself and help me determine if it was worth my time/effort to do so. A private repair would likely cost much more than the phone is worth because,as you stated,it is somewhat antiquated.
I found a few such tips on my own but if you have others that might be helpful,i'd appreciate it.Thanks
